Overview




The Forensic Interviewer/Mental Health Advocate is responsible for interviewing families and youth regarding child maltreatment and family violence for the purpose of medical diagnosis and treatment. The Forensic Interviewer/Mental Health Advocate must possess the ability to manage a multi-disciplinary child abuse investigative team. The Forensic Interviewer/Mental Health Advocate must demonstrate competency in appropriate use of mental health interventions when working with child and parents. This individual will provide culturally competent services in all areas.

Responsibilities




* Facilitates non-leading interviews to children using the most appropriate techniques.
* Coordinates a multi-disciplinary team comprised of individuals internal and external to Nationwide Children's Hospital.
* Collaborates effectively with interdisciplinary team to identify, assess, and report suspected child abuse as required by law, with particular attention to risk reduction and prevention.
* Demonstrates the appropriate use of mental health interventions when working with children and parents.
* Manages subpoenas effectively and provides court testimony as appropriate.
* Understands and appreciates linguistically appropriate approaches.
* Demonstrates awareness of diversity issues and provides culturally sensitive services to children and families.
* Provides education and consultation regarding child abuse.
* Participates consistently in clinical supervision, peer review, staff meetings, and other CAC quality assurance processes.
* Participates in the development of clinical pathways, operating procedures, and evidence-based techniques.
* Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development by participating in proactive goal setting, maintaining appropriate licensure, and participating in education/training opportunities.
* Documents clinical practice in accordance with TCFSH, Joint Commission, funding agency requirements, and other appropriate standards. Maintains timely records.
* Advocates for and represents the spirit, mission, and values of the TCFSH.
* Performs other duties as assigned by the Clinical Supervisor.


Qualifications




KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

1. Masters degree required from an accredited university or professional school in soical work or counsleing or something similar
2. Appropriate Ohio licensure- LSW or LPC required
3. Demonstrated skills in managing mental healthcare to children and families.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers.
5. Basic understanding of sexual victimization.
6. Basic understanding of domestic violence.
7. Ability to provide family violence intervention.
8. Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
9. Ability to be dually trained and demonstrate flexibility in the Forensic Interviewer/Mental Health Advocate roles.
10. Ability to work with confidential information.

Ages of patients will vary from age 0 to 18 with some support and service to adult foster parents.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to see, hear, speak, and perform manual tasks with or without accommodation and care for oneself, with little or no difficulty. Performance of principle duties and responsibilities may require ability to travel.

Physical requirements may include but not be restricted to minimal lifting (less than 50 pounds), standing, walking, sitting, driving, hearing, and seeing. These requirements may occur from occasional use to frequent depending on the client served.

Sitting: Constantly (67 - 100%)
Talking on phone/in person: Constantly (67 - 100 %)
Typing on a keyboard: Frequently (34 - 66%)
Standing/walking: Occasionally (0 - 33%)
