Responsibilities




PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists with research experiments for kidney disease research including in vitro, in vivo, and patient sample projects.
Conducts laboratory analyses; assists in assay studies and tests on substrates of materials used in research including Western blot, qPCR, immunostaining, histology, microscopy, and other techniques as needed.
Performs cell, bacterial, and viral cultures utilizing sterile techniques. Grows and harvests research specimens, as applicable.
Obtains supplies and equipment needed for research projects and ensures equipment is in proper working condition. Draws items from inventory supplies.
Prepares special instruments and monitoring devices used to record test results.
Maintains detailed laboratory records for ease of replicating experiments and writing of methods sections for publications.
Assists with preparation of laboratory reports by collecting and collating research data. Prepares drafts of laboratory reports under direction of Research Scientist and conducts literature research to obtain supporting research data. Prepares charts, graphs, and related data.
Creates figures and written sections for manuscripts. Assists in manuscript formatting and editing for journal submission.
Maintains clean laboratory area. Replaces instruments after use and ensures slides, test tubes, glassware, and other items used in analyses are cleaned.
Adheres to proper safety techniques and procedures for a Biosafety Level 2 lab, handling of human specimens, and lab animal research.
Performs miscellaneous related duties.


Qualifications




Reports to: Principal Investigator.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

High School graduate with two years accredited college coursework majoring in science preferred.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Percent of time spent on: 40% Typing on computer, analyzing data, writing reports
35% Performing experiments/assays
20% Planning experiments and ensuring adequate reagents/supplies for their completion
5% Attending lab meetings to discuss findings and next steps
100% Kneeling / reaching
100% Finger dexterity
100% Talking / hearing / seeing
