R&D Scientific Programmer

About the Job

The Scientific Programmer position is responsible for the development, maintenance, and implementation of color software and applications that support the business strategies and objectives of the technical organization. The position will also have the responsibilities to support software installation, training, and troubleshooting for various lab and plant sites. The ideal candidate must display excellent written and oral skills with demonstrated interpersonal and organization abilities. A candidate for this position must be able to work in a varied, fast paced environment, able to handle ambiguity, and be customer focused.

Responsibilities include:


Windows Desktop Application Development
Perform analysis of business models, logic specifications, and customer use case requirements to design and build software/desktop application solutions utilizing the established tool set.
Design application user interfaces and database components.
Develop desktop applications that meet the customer specifications and adhere to programming standards, methods, and best practices.
Assist with the implementation plan as developed with the application owner.
Design and implement application support libraries, instrument device drivers and network communication features.

Strategy & Planning


Recommend software solutions and process improvements to the Senior Scientific Programmers.
Develop project plans and associated documents that follow departmental protocols for project management.
Develop and contribute to CI projects and Marketing requests as needed.
Understand and/or learn color science.
Provide data analysis through various formats and interpretation of results as necessary.

Maintenance and Support


Maintain existing desktop applications by making approved modifications or enhancements to meet changing business needs.
Provide critical support to existing desktop applications to resolve issues and problems.
Document all maintenance and support activities in departmental log.
Support site needs regarding other IT areas such as spectrophotometer and other color related equipment and general questions on hardware and software use.
The Ideal candidate will also possess the following skills:
Able to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines.
Able to promptly answer support related email, phone calls and other electronic communications.
Self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized.
Experience with debugging problems involving hardware and software issues.
Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills.
Experience in structured environment with increasing levels of responsibility and complexity.

EDUCATION:

Required:


Must have a Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Math ("STEM") field

Preferred:


Bachelors in IT field

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

Required:


1 year of IT related experience.
1 year of experience working on all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle.
1+ year desktop application experience
Experience working with customers to build and formulate business requirements.

Preferred:


Experience with color matching and/or color science & theory
1+ year experience using relational databases, including Oracle and MS SQL Server.
1+ year experience Object-oriented analysis and design (OOAD).
1+ years' experience with ASP.net, C#, HTML, .NET Framework, Visual Studio.NET
1+ years' experience using Microsoft technologies including WPF, EF and WCF.
Expertise in Microsoft Office products including Access, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Familiarity with manufacturing software would be beneficial.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

10%

Upon completion of construction, the individual selected for this role will primarily work at the new Sherwin-Williams Global Technology Center in Brecksville, Ohio. Construction is expected to be complete in Q4 2024. Until then, the role will be based at Breen Technology Center, located at 601 Canal Road, Cleveland, OH 44113.
