POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision, demonstrate effective organization, administration, and continuous improvement of the Aspire program. Provide superb customer relations and administrative support that enables the department to achieve its goals and to advance the mission of Marion Technical College (the "College"). 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Develop and maintain departmental goals, objectives, and assessments for the College’s Aspire program. Responsible for evaluation of reports, decisions and results of department in relation to established goals. Establish new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and the College.
  2. Serve as liaison between the College and the Ohio Department of Higher Education’s Aspire – Adult Workforce Readiness Education Office to advance the program and the College and to ensure the program meets WIOA grant requirements, established benchmarks, and assurances.
  3. Manage all aspects of setting appointments, responding to phone and email inquiries, collecting data, maintaining accurate records, and performing timely data input in ABLELINK/LACES. Maintain paper and electronic records for and in compliance with all program funding sources.
  4. Supervise and mentor Aspire program staff in all classroom and office locations; organize, implement, and participate in staff development programs and activities, including College professional development activities, when appropriate. Interview applicants for Aspire positions; hire or dismiss personnel. Conduct and evaluate written performance appraisals completed on a timely, annual basis.
  5. Investigate and implement learning strategies and instructional delivery methods; supervise the program’s instructional processes.
  6. Implement systems for enrollment management, the evaluation and assessment of student learning, curriculum development and program evaluation.
  7. Publicize the program for recruitment of students, in coordination with College Marketing, as well as the orientation, registration, and follow-up of students. Serve as a program liaison between the department, faculty, students, and other College administrative staff.
  8. Plan, prepare and administer the Aspire annual budget, the specific grant parameters, classroom locations, and class times. Coordinate efforts with various College departments to plan, acquire, maintain and secure inventory and equipment. Prepare and submit purchase requests.
  9. Maintain liaison with colleagues in other institutions and Aspire programs. Actively participate in professional associations. Attend on- or off-campus Aspire and College meetings and serve on departmental and College committees as required or assigned.
  10. Serve as substitute teacher, individual tutor, or assistant to instructors in the classroom as needed to provide uninterrupted service and instruction to Aspire students. 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Common)

  1. Respond to inquiries from students, College employees, and customers in a timely manner while maintaining confidentiality and privacy in accordance with the College, HIPAA, FERPA, student records, and any other protected documentation.
  2. Develop and maintain a departmental team-based, customer service culture. Monitor departmental activities and customer satisfaction. Identify areas for improvement and implement a constructive plan to meet customer service standards. 
  3. Provide leadership to develop and fulfill the College and the program's mission, including all programming and development, and communication with constituencies.  
  4. Establish and use an advisory committee to support and manage the programs.
  5. Establish and maintain an organized, comprehensive record-keeping system to process all departmental reports required for external and internal purposes, including files, correspondence, reporting, and research requirements. Organize and maintain departmental data on network shared drives. Maintain user proficiency for software programs, systems, and databases used by the College.
  6. Conduct, maintain, and review program evaluations, assessment plans, program reviews, data, and associated policies and procedures in accordance with funding and program requirements and with College policies and procedures. 
  7. Work collaboratively with all College student support service areas that work with at-risk students, including admissions, tutoring, mentoring, and first-year advisors. Work collaboratively with external partners.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree required. Three to five years of teaching or tutoring experience with students in an academic setting; strong customer service skills required. Proficiency in Microsoft® Office programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook), with excellent computer and related technology skills required. Demonstrated ability to work independently and complete projects on time with minimal direction and oversight. 

Previous experience in public higher education desired. Any combination of work experience, training, and/or education equivalent may be accepted. Willingness to work an irregular schedule as assigned. Successfully pass a background check prior to and throughout employment. Valid driver’s license or dependable transportation required. Smart phone required.

ADA SPECIFICATIONS

This position is classified as Staff - Management, Professional, Administrative, and Support and will perform a wide range of professional and administrative support functions for the college, primarily in an office setting. Further information may be obtained from the Office of Human Resources.
