This position is responsible for the operation of a department. An individual in this position will be expected to perform additional job-related responsibilities and duties as assigned and/or necessary.

Essential Functions

An individual must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this position with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Complies with company policies, procedures, and standards of ethics and integrity by implementing related action plans; using the Open Door Policy; and applying these in executing business processes and practices.
  • Completes work assignments and priorities by using policies, data, and resources; collaborating with managers, co-workers, customers, and other business partners; identifying priorities, deadlines, and expectations; carrying out tasks; communicating progress and information; determining and recommending ways to address improvement opportunities; and adapting to and learning from change, difficulties, and feedback.
  • Processes customer purchases by operating cash registers and related hardware; and using appropriate procedures for different payment types and items sold.
  • Prepares the prescription order for inspection by the pharmacist by retrieving prescription orders; counting, pouring, measuring or weighing medication tablets, liquids, and creams; mixing or reconstituting medications as needed; selecting, filling, and labeling prescription containers; and operating scanning equipment and/or automated dispensing systems to ensure prescription accuracy.
  • Completes prescription data entry into the pharmacy software under the supervision of pharmacist and/or a lead pharmacy technician by reading the prescription; translating prescription information into corresponding system codes; transcribing appropriate prescription data (for example, written date, drug name, strength, directions for use (sig), refills, name of prescribing physician, and prescriber DEA number); and creating or modifying patient/customer records.
  • Provides customer assistance during prescription pick-up by verifying patient information and entering it into the TaSCO system according to corporate policies and procedures; marking appropriate prescriptions for pick-up; retrieving prescription bags from will-call bin; scanning security tags; gathering electronic signatures for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) acknowledgment and third-party payer, if applicable; and using TaSCO to log the sale of restricted pharmaceutical items.
  • Promotes and maintains the Pharmacy's professional reputation and provides patients/customers with pharmacy products and services in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and corporate policies and procedures by assisting in the prescription fulfillment process; maintaining the pharmacy area and merchandise; stocking and rotating merchandise and supplies from distribution centers and suppliers; handling claims and returns; answering the pharmacy telephone; submitting third-party insurance claims; assisting patients/customers with prescription orders and purchases; completing, maintaining, and securing paperwork, forms, and other required documentation; and maintaining a safe shopping environment.

  • Inventory - Entry: Handles, moves, and displays goods in safe and correct ways. Maintains in-stock levels with assistance. Reports low in-stock levels in assigned area. Uses inventory tools and equipment in safe and correct ways.
  • Pharmacy Operations - Entry: Follows safety and security guidelines and related laws and regulations when handling, storing, and providing Pharmacy goods and records, and when filling prescriptions. Provides correct Pharmacy information to Customers or refers them to the Pharmacist or other Pharmacy associates when unable to do so.
  • Provides Pharmacy products and services, and handles Customer orders, records, and prescriptions in a timely manner. Reports Pharmacy Department complaints and problems with products, services, and work areas. Uses Pharmacy equipment and supplies in safe and correct ways, and keeps products stocked and organized.
  • Pharmacy Diversion: Supports the prevention of drug diversion and fraudulent prescriptions. Monitors pharmacy access and maintains security measures. Reports instances of potential prescription fraud and/or diversion to the pharmacist. Adheres to standard operating procedures for handling-controlled substances, removing outdated merchandise, selling and returning of pseudoephedrine-containing products, and disposing of trash. Prohibits the presence of personal belongings in the Pharmacy, keeps the Pharmacy neat, clean, organized, and clutter free. Maintains awareness about the abuse of amphetamine and methamphetamine and other related community health issues.

Work Environment

Working in the following environment is necessary to perform one or more of the essential functions of this position.

  • Moves through narrow, confined spaces such as stacks of merchandise or supplies, storage areas, and closets.
  • May work with substances that require special handling.
  • Works varying shifts as required.

 

Entry Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Meets state requirements to work as a Pharmacy Technician, such as minimum age, qualification, registration, certification, and/or licensure when required by the State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Must obtain national certification issued by PTCB (PTCE) or NHA (ExCPT) within one year of job entry in Walmart designated states.
