The American Red Cross is currently seeking a 2024 Summer Intern to support the cybersecurity team while engaging with the Asian American Pacific Islanders Resource Group to raise awareness. This is a Full-Time position that will work from their home location. This position can be located anywhere within the United States.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

This intern will have a dual role this summer. The first capacity will be to work closely with the internal operations of the cybersecurity program to gain practical working experience within the industry. The second goal for this position would be to partner with the members of the AAAPI Resource group to continue growing representation within the Asian American and Pacific Islander community.

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE GOOD:

Information security (75% of one's time) Will spend one month in each of the following areas:

Operations - As a member of Operations, you will assist our senior engineers
as they investigate, monitor, test and protect Red Cross IT systems from threats and
vulnerabilities. Operations may include network perimeter defense (e.g. firewalls, attack
surface management, SIEM log analysis), endpoint security (antivirus, EDR, Incident
Response), and vulnerability management (vulnerability scanning, patching and
reporting and remediation).
Governance - As a member of Governance, you will
assist senior analysts in a variety of areas including policy development, supplier risk
assessment, compliance, brand protection, domain management and training and
awareness.
Architecture - As a member of Architecture, you will assist the
architecture team with architecture reviews of solutions, assisting with project management,
and/or evaluating and testing security solutions and integrations with other IT
systems.

Asian American Pacific Islanders Resource Group (25% of one's time) - As an active member of the AAPI Resource Group, you will assist the team in performing work related to the continuing growth and
inclusion of AAPI community members into the Red Cross family, including:

Business Impact - Promoting awareness of the diversity of AAPI and how their unique cultures
can be an active part of the American Red Cross community. Peer Community &
Networking - Create a sustainable forum for the AAPI community of the American Red
Cross to exchange ideas, celebrate cultures, and build connections across the Red
Cross community.
Professional Development - Facilitate opportunities for leadership
and mentoring to better engage and develop members of the AAPI community within
the American Red Cross.
Community and Youth Engagement - Engage the community to
promote the Red Cross, Volunteerism, Blood drives, and other relevant
activities/campaigns of the American Red Cross

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:

Education: Internship is for an active undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited program which requires university credit hours in a related field of study such as computer science, information systems, accounting/audit/risk management, cybersecurity or other technology-oriented fields of study.

Experience: Up to 1 year of related technology experience and the ideal candidate should have demonstrated knowledge, connection and/or interest in the AAPI community. Prior experience as a Red Cross volunteer a plus.
Management Experience: N/a
Skills & Abilities: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and ability to work on a team.

*General web development skills (HTML, scripting,etc), Experience with Microsoft PowerBI and/or experience using Jira and Confluence preferred.
Travel: No travel required. However, if located within 50 miles of a Red Cross office, the intern may be presented with opportunities to participate in local volunteer Red Cross activities in their area. Optionally, may travel to Washington, DC to participate in the Team Member Resource Group Summit in June.

Combination of candidate's education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description's minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).

Physical Requirements

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones and printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.

SALARY INFORMATIOM

The salary range for this position is $18.00 -$20.00 per hour.

This job will be posted for a minimum of five business days and extended if the applicant pool needs to be expanded.

Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role.
