 Purpose of Job Position

The primary purpose of your job position is to provide your assigned residents with routine daily nursing care and perform duties as may be directed by your supervisors according to established nursing care policies and procedures and current federal, state and local regulations and guidelines that govern St. Luke.

Job Functions

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Personnel Functions

  1. Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with St. Luke’s established policies and procedures, and as instructed by your supervisors.
  2. Ensure that activities and delivery of services helps to support the mission of St. Luke Lutheran Community.
  3. Attend and participate in scheduled training and educational classes, inservices and orientation programs to maintain state-tested status and CPR certification.
  4. Participate in the maintenance and implementation of the St. Luke’s quality assurance program for the nursing department.
  5. Participate in surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as necessary.
  6. Record all entries on assignment sheets, notes, and all other duties assigned, in an informative and descriptive manner. Follow work assignments, and/or work schedules in completing and performing your assigned tasks.
  7. Use the identification system to properly identify residents before serving meals, and related duties, as necessary.
  8. Report all changes in the resident's condition to the Charge/Staff nurse as soon as practical.
  9. Meet with nursing personnel, on a regularly scheduled basis, to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or the improvement of services.

Nursing Care Functions

  1. Assist residents with daily dental and mouth care, bath functions, dressing/undressing, hair and nail care. Keep facial hair shaven on male and female residents, and assist with eye and ear care, as instructed.
  2. Keep residents clean and dry.
  3. Make beds and change linens.
  4. Position bedfast residents in correct and comfortable position.
  5. Assist residents with bowel and bladder functions.
  6. Assist residents in preparing for medical tests and exams.

 

  1. Assist residents in preparing for and transporting to/from activity and social programs and transfers or discharges.
  2. Assist with lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transporting resident into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, and all other assigned duties.
  3. Answer residents call lights promptly. Keep call system within easy reach of the resident.
  4. Assist residents to walk with or without self-help devices, perform restorative and rehabilitative procedures as instructed.
  5. Measure and record temperatures, intakes and outputs, and weigh and record weight as instructed.
  6. Check residents routinely to assure that their personal care needs are being met.
  7. Provide residents with Reality Orientation, as instructed.
  8. Post-mortem care.
  9. Perform routine light housekeeping duties.

Food Service Functions

  1. Prepare residents for meals and perform after meal care.
  2. Serve food trays. Assist with feeding as indicated.
  3. Record the resident’s food/fluid intake. Report changes in the resident's eating habits.
  4. Keep resident water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water.
  5. Serve between meal and bedtime snacks.

Safety and Infection Control

  1. Practice established infection control methods, safety precautions and universal precautions practices when performing all duties and using equipment and supplies.
  2. Report all hazardous conditions or equipment, and safety violations to your supervisor immediately.
  3. Report all accidents/incidents to your supervisor on the shift in which they occur.
  4. Clean, disinfect, and return all resident care equipment to its designated storage area after each use.
  5. Report any communicable or infectious disease that you contact to the Director of Nursing and/or to the Infection Control Coordinator.
  6. Follow established isolation precautions and procedures, and policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids.

Resident Rights

  1. Maintain the confidentiality of all resident information.
  2. Ensure that you treat all residents fairly, and with kindness, dignity, and respect.
  3. Knock before entering the resident's room.
  4. Report all grievances and complaints made by the resident to the Charge/Staff nurse and/or Social Worker.
  5. Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift.
  6. Ensure that all nursing care is provided in privacy.
  7. Immediately report any witnessed or suspected verbal, physical, mental abuse by an employee, visitor, family member, or resident toward a resident.
  8. Immediately report any witnessed or suspected abuse, misuse, or misappropriation of resident funds or belongings, etc. to the appropriate personnel.

Benefits: Paid-Time-Off

Wage: $16.25/ hour, $1.00 shift differential for afternoon and midnight shifts
