About the Department

The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics competes at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics with the vision to reach Next Level Success for all 18 varsity teams and more than 500 student-athletes. The Bearcats have a proud athletics history, winning eight national championships and 117 conference titles. The Cincinnati men's basketball team is among the 15 winningest programs all-time, while the football team became the first American Athletic Conference program to compete in the College Football Playoff in 2021. Olympic gold medalist volleyball player Jordan Thompson, NBA Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson and Major League Baseball legend Sandy Koufax are among the several luminaries who have competed as Bearcats.

Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics is seeking a Head Coach to lead its ten-time world champion and seven-time national champion dance team. Reporting to the Spirit Coordinator, this individual will be responsible for overseeing the dance program while participating in training and maintaining awareness of safety developments. Responsibilities will include development of practice plans, management of choreography of all dance routines for games and tournaments, instruction of team members on various aspects of technique and routines.

This is a part-time position, not benefit eligible.

Essential Functions


Direct strategic, administrative, and organizational aspects of the dance program including recruiting, coaching, practice, academic success, student-athlete experience, budgeting, etc.
Develop practice plans.
Manage choreography of all dance routines for games and tournaments, including nationals and potentially worlds.
Maintain current knowledge of and adhere to all University, UDA and NCAA Rules and Regulations, Policies and Procedures paying special attention to recruiting, eligibility. Promote an atmosphere of compliance.
Collaborate with staff in developing and implementing programs and procedures that promote the welfare and academic success of student-athletes.
Counsel of student-athletes relative to academic success, progress and eligibility.
Foster and maintain positive student body and faculty relations with student-athletes.
Oversee and participate in the recruitment of prospective academically and athletically qualified student-athletes.
Provide oversight and input in budget planning and tracking of expenditures.
Participate in public and alumni relations and promotions activities and establish and maintain positive relations with the media. Engage and solicit donors to meet the fundraising goals as established by the Director of Athletics. Collaborate with support staff to implement and perform administrative tasks in line with program and departmental goals.
May be required to drive a university vehicle and/or student-athletes.
May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education


Bachelor's Degree
Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Trainings/Certifications


Must be able to pass and maintain NCAA recruiting certification, if required by sport program.
Valid driver's license.

Required Experience

Three (3) years of coaching experience or work in an athletic department setting.

Additional Qualifications Considered


1 to 3 years of college dance coaching experience, performance as a collegiate dancer.
Possess effective coaching techniques and understanding of complex tricks/routines.
Knowledge of collegiate dance team rules and regulations.
Strong verbal and communication skills.
Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Work with a high degree of professionalism and integrity.
Possess an unquestioned commitment to student welfare.
Available to attend functions on nights and weekends.
