POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Mechanical Engineer - UCE plays a key role in the successful execution of projects. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager - UCE, this individual will provide technical and engineering excellence, as well as successful delivery of work to our customers. 

The Utilities and Central Energy (UCE) group specializes in large central plant work, particularly for district energy serving cities, universities, hospitals, and manufacturing campuses. Our expertise covers both energy production and distribution. We have expertise in sustainable energy production, simple and combined cycle, combined heat and power, industrial HVAC, and medium voltage power.

 

Our clients look for us to lead large complex projects from concept to completion, including startup, check-out, and commissioning. 

 

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

 

  • Prepares engineering documents and equipment specifications to meet contracted scope of work and to ensure code compliance.
  • Performs engineering calculations.
  • May approve final utilities systems/equipment selections and drawing submittals.
  • Leads utilities systems/equipment procurement efforts.
  • May manage assigned projects, driving them to completion. 
  • Thorough understanding of Architectural design, Electrical, Civil and Structural Engineering and construction practices. 
  • Provides technical and engineering support to other departments/disciplines.
  • May represent KFI at conferences, customer events, and through membership in industry associations.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • 6+ years of professional engineering experience.
  • A pragmatic and applied approach, while at the same time fostering a creative examination of customer needs and solutions. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilities generation and distribution systems design.  
  • Strong interpersonal skills to enable effective interaction with Designers, Engineers, and sub-consultants. 
  • Strong communication and influencing skills.
  • Maturity and self-confidence to work with colleagues and customers. 
  • Ability to collaborate with others. 
  • Ability to assimilate a range of ideas, programs, or alternatives into a set of recommendations. 
  • Self-directed and thrives in an environment where consultation leads to superior outcomes.

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient writing skills and experience generating technical reports.
  • Experience developing campus utilities masterplans preferred.

  • Experience in infrastructure projects and/or plant operations is preferred.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required. Professional Engineering registration or willingness to pursue this designation is also required.
