POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Campus Security Supervisor serves as the security officer in charge of their assigned shift/site in conjunction with the Director of Campus Security and performs the same duties as campus security officers in protecting health and safety. The Campus Security Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating and providing training for new and current officers on their assigned shift/site. The supervisor may also perform supervisory functions at Case Western Reserve University special events and other details as necessary. The supervisor will perform their duties in accordance with, as well as other services in keeping with the mission and values of Case Western Reserve University and the university Division of Public Safety. The Campus Security Supervisor will exhibit a proactive, service-oriented approach to the provision of community-based security services to the faculty, staff, students and visitors of Case Western Reserve University and the surrounding community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Serve as shift supervisor in conjunction with Director of Campus Security. Supervise the daily activities of all on duty security personnel during assigned shifts. This includes supervision of field training officers, contract security officers and security officers. Direct and advise subordinates in the interpretation and application of university and department rules and procedures. Perform all the functions of a campus security officer. Manage emergency response and coordinate with internal and external responders. The Campus Security Supervisor will be required to be on-call 24/7 for emergencies. (50%)
Provide site/shift management of the deployment of resources in addition to the supervision of contract security personnel. Consult with other departments and university authorities in emergency situations as required. Activate emergency communications as needed, in compliance with the Clery Act and university policy. Conduct thorough security checks throughout buildings/zone/campus. (20%)
Maintain accurate timekeeping, training and other records for officers assigned to shift. Ensure that all assigned staff comply with department- and state-mandated training. Review and approve incident reports, other required written reports, logs, and documentation for proper submission and distribution. (10%)
Manage site/shift special event coverage assignments daily. Provide staffing support throughout the site/shift for open positions. (8%)
Schedule mandatory safety/security training and maintain records. Train new and present officers to meet department standards in all facets of security. Submit comprehensive written security incident reports as assigned. (9%)

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Perform other specialized operational functions within the department as assigned. (3%)

CONTACTS

Department: Frequent contact with departmental staff to maintain workflow.

University: Frequent contact with university staff and faculty to exchange information.

External: Routine contact with police, fire and EMS personnel from the cities of Cleveland, Cleveland Heights and University Circle Police Departments. Occasional contact with other local, county, state and federal agencies may be required. Members of the public are frequently encountered passing through university property and visiting public venues owned by the university.

Students: Frequent contact with university students to exchange information.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Campus Security Supervisors supervise assigned shifts/site in conjunction with or in the absence of assigned Director of Campus Security, supervising all on duty security officers assigned to site/shift.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 2 years of prior security/police/dispatch experience or related experience required. Must pass a thorough background investigation including criminal history, PRADCO and LEADS certification. May be required to undergo psychological screening and a job related skills assessment.

Education/Licensing: High school education required, two-year degree in Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice preferred or equivalent combination of education and related experience will be considered. Possess a valid Ohio operator's license with no significant violations.

REQUIRED SKILLS
Have an understanding of the security function within an educational institution.
Possess the ability to interact in a sensitive, courteous and understanding manner with members of a diverse academic community.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to operate monitors, computers, computer programs, create spreadsheets and record keeping.
Must be familiar with and able to operate fire and security equipment located at the site.
Optimize productivity by multi-tasking between officer duties, training and event planning.
Initiate good security practices targeting patterns of criminal activity.
Maximize officer visibility by utilizing monitoring of software.
Ability to meet consistent attendance.
Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Exposure to inside and outside environmental conditions. May require reaching, standing, walking, climbing, fingering, grasping and feeling, and the ability to lift or move objects of up to 20 pounds. May require extended hours and/or weekends.
