POSITION TITLE: Social Service Worker 3

PAY RANGE: $19.33 - $24.25 per hour

FLSA: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

STATUS: Classified, Bargaining Unit

UNDER DIRECT SUPERVISION OF:  Jaime Grunder

DEPARTMENT: Case Management 1 PCN: 36007.0  CLASS: 69313  PAY RANGE: 29

DETAILS: Workdays are Monday through Friday, 8am to 4:30pm

PROBATIONARY PERIOD: One year

WORK LOCATION: On-Site, TCJFS

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of undergraduate field of study (i.e., social work, sociology, psychology, counseling) as required by college or university (Bachelor’s degree), or current Social Worker Licensure from Ohio Counselor and Social Worker Board
  • Employees subject to on-call duties must be able to respond within a one-half (1/2) hour travel time period of the county seat or make temporary lodging arrangements within a one-half (1/2) hour radius while performing on-call duty
  • Must maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license
  • Must pass all requested background checks/drug testing

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

  • Under direct supervision of the Case Management 1 Supervisor, the Social Worker is responsible for managing a caseload involving abused, neglected, and/or dependent children and their families and providing required services to assist families. 
  • Provides counseling, referrals, collaboration with other agencies, and crisis intervention.
  • Meets timelines, sets goals with families, coordinates, and monitors services.
  • Completes all required paperwork timely and enters into computer system as required.
  • May testify in court.
  • Attends required training and maintains hours as required.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Case manages a child protective caseload involving abused, neglected and/or dependent children and their families. 
  • Develops and implements case plans based on assessed risk to children, families and individual strengths and weaknesses. 
  • Applies Family Centered Neighborhood Based practices to accomplish case plan objectives and goals. 
  • Provides casework counseling; information, referral and follow-up; and crisis intervention as needed. 
  • Works with other professionals and organizations to coordinate and monitor services. 
  • It may be necessary to use your personal vehicle.  Sees children and parents/caregivers in their homes monthly.  Travels to see foster children and foster parents/caregivers in their placements monthly.
  • Prepares to testify in court as needed. 
  • Completes Home Studies as required by the court on agency cases. 
  • Prepares Case Plans, Case Reviews, Semi-Annual Administrative Reviews, Family Assessments, Safety Assessments, Genograms, court documents, and other required forms in accordance with agency requirements and CAPMIS and Council on Accreditation Standards. 
  • Uses SACWIS and agency computer system to record and review case information. 
  • Scans and documents information into Traverse/EDMS. 
  • Completes ODJFS 1616 & CSI information for permanent custody cases. 
  • Is on-call on a 24-hour basis as assigned by Supervisor. 
  • Attends training, conferences, and related meetings. 
  • Gives speeches to civic and community organizations.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
  • May be required to use own vehicle and provide proof of current driver's license and vehicle insurance (which is defined in Ohio Administrative Code [OAC]). 
  • Employee may be required to submit to initial/ongoing background checks in accordance with FTI rules. 

 

Job Description:

  • Will work with families at risk of child maltreatment as partners to identify family strengths, needs and risks or concerns that are interfering with child safety, healthy child development, and/or family stability and well-being.
  • Will use standardized CAPMIS tools and protocols to assess and document safety and risk in accordance with agency requirements and accreditation standards.
  • Will create individualized case/family service plans with identified goals in partnership with family and build objectives toward achieving goals.
  • Will view family strengths and need holistically and make appropriate service and support recommendations based on assessments and established goals.
  • Will facilitate family’s ability to meet goals through engagement, communication support and connections to services.
  • Will implement crisis intervention assigned by supervisor; may require working non-traditional hours.
  • Will make decisions in conjunction with proper authorities to take immediate action when individual(s) are in danger (including removal from the home to shelter care). Will take legal action, prepare court documents, and testify in court when necessary. Will accept voluntary custody of minor children from responsible guardians.
  • Will complete case documentation and data entry within SACWIS on a timely basis to contribute to agency’s continuous quality improvement and evaluation efforts. May be required to use own vehicle.
  • Will coordinate community resources to assist in service delivery. Will make referrals to other agency resources.
  • Will provide casework counseling.
  • Will arrange for mental health professionals to assess mental competency in protective referral situations.
  • Will perform on-call duties as assigned.
  • Will provide public education as prevention to abuse, neglect, etc.
  • Will make speaking engagements with schools, law enforcement agencies, civic organizations, etc.
  • Will attend conferences, training and meetings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
