JOB DESCRIPTION: EDUCATIONAL AIDE
JOB SUMMARY: | Assist the classroom teacher(s) in various tasks such as recordkeeping, grading student work, supervising students, working with students individually or in small groups, assisting with field trips or special school programs, assisting with preparation of materials and equipment for class activities, reading to or listening to students. |
GENERAL DUTIES: | Typing, duplicating/copying, supervising students, checking/correcting/grading student work, develop and or use teaching aids and materials, assisting teacher(s) as needed. Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor. |
EDUCATION: | High School Graduate or the equivalent and an aide’s certificate or license from Ohio’s State Department of Education. |
EXPERIENCE | Preference is for a person with previous experience working with children (in school, clubs, etc.). |
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS: | Attitude and aptitude to work with children and adults effectively; know or be able to learn the operations of necessary school audio-visual and office equipment; understand child development; minimal typing skills of 35 wpm error-free. |
ABILITY TO: | Accept responsibility of position; work independently; assist in the development of teaching aids and materials; work with individual and small groups of children in activities and learning situations under the supervision of the classroom teacher; manage children effectively; adapt to various types of circumstances and situations without loss of judgment or positive attitude. |
SUPERVISION: | Directly supervised by the Principal, with general supervision/ direction by the classroom teacher(s). |
CHARACTER and HEALTH: | Must be in good health as evidenced by absence record in previous employment and/or school. Work and personal habits practiced on the job must be such as to reflect favorably upon the school system. |
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: | Regular school year (180 days) with 4 additional days optional. |
WAGE: | Commensurate with experience and qualifications and as stated on the wage schedule as adopted by the Federal Hocking Local Board of Education. |
