About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU]

This position is a member of the Emerging Technologies Strategy department. The IIJA and IRA are federal programs providing $1.7 trillion in infrastructure funding. These once-in-a-generation programs are an important strategic opportunity for FirstEnergy. This position will be part of a team responsible for owning the process to pursue grants under the programs and managing any grants received. This includes engaging across our research partners and across functions at FE, driving an innovative and forward-looking culture, researching, preparing, submitting, and managing grants, pilot proposals, and reports that support FE's goals and meet funder guidelines and criteria. Other responsibilities will include managing funder relationships, engaging in compliance reporting, and supporting special project initiatives. This position requires strategic thinking, strong writing, data analysis, program budgeting, project management skills, and the ability to work with a broad cross section of internal and external stakeholders, with an emphasis on outcome measurement.

Responsibilities include:

Leading grant proposal development and submission - preparing and organizing materials for proposals, and submitting and monitoring grant applications, as well as managing post-award activities like negotiations and compliance management.


Researching new funding and business development opportunities on a local, state, and federal level.
Drafting proposals/LOIs, grant application narratives, and budgets and collaborate to finalize with program staff, finance, and executive leadership.
Submitting grant applications.
Maintaining master calendar of grants and prospects and all associated files and correspondence.
Maintaining library of grant support documents including resumes, bios, IRS forms, Board/staff diversity lists, etc.
Facilitating grant contracts/agreements.
Maintaining grant compliance and reporting, including outcome measurement and grant budgets-taking responsibility for meeting high standards of effectiveness, timeliness, and completeness, including:

Monitoring and maintaining funder and investor reporting schedules and requirements.
Tracking progress toward organizational and programmatic outcomes and goals.
Requesting reimbursements and drawdowns as needed.

Drafting compelling progress reports and working with Communications for targeted program updates (e.g. press releases, social media posts) to funders that fully capture programmatic success.
Assembling all necessary supporting materials and documents including budget reports, outcome measurements, success stories, etc.; work with Communications and IR to submit reports to funders and investors.
Researching statistics, trends and data for grant proposals and community advocacy, including:

Performing research and data-gathering - both from external sources and internal program data.
Assisting in development of presentations for various stakeholders.

Qualifications include:


Bachelor's degree in business, communications, public policy or related field of study is required.
Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience is required.
In lieu of degree, minimum of 10 years of relevant experience is required.
Relevant experience includes in-depth experience in research, project management, analysis.
Demonstrated experience with innovation; Creative, forward-thinking mindset.
Demonstrated questioning attitude to learn, produce results and develop relationships.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
Ability to communicate and collaborate externally with a strong understanding of etiquette and confidence in representing FE.
Ability to work with leadership, including leading cross-functional groups.
Highly organized.
Strong analytical abilities.
Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Applications.
Desire to learn, grow, and work across FirstEnergy and deliver results.
