Schedule: Hybrid, will be required to work onsite in Akron and travel per business needs

Summary:

The Population Health Medical Director will be responsible for the physician leadership of Akron Children's Hospital's pediatric accountable care organization and Akron Children's Hospital home care. Akron Children's Health Collaborative will improve child health by engaging patients and families, empowering providers, and collaborating with communities. The Medical Director will act as the physician leader responsible for provider engagement and supporting the clinical direction of the accountable care organization and home care. The Medical Director will work with employed Akron Children's Hospital providers, affiliated community network practices and health systems, to improve child health outcomes, access to care, appropriateness of utilization and reduce the total cost of medical care. Reporting to the ACHC Executive Director/Chief Population Health Officer, the Medical Director will provide consultative physician leadership in the areas of evidence-based clinical guidelines, improvement science, provider engagement, utilization management (UM) principles, payer coverage and contractual requirements, and other initiatives to improve child health outcomes. The Medical Director will be expected to continue at 40% clinical practice to maintain clinical credibility with providers.

Responsibilities:

Provides consultative & collaborative physician leadership to ACHC leadership, home care leadership, staff, and participating providers and acts as the public-facing physician leader of Akron Children's Health Collaborative (ACHC) and Akron Children's Home Care.

2. Works closely with ACHC Care Management leadership and home care leadership to assist with provider alignment on key clinical priorities as well as patient care and improvement initiatives aimed at improving child health.

3. Under direction of ACHC Executive Director/Chief Population Health Officer, actively leads, facilitates and/or supports, as appropriate, the agendas of the ACHC board of directors, board committees and other governance bodies related to quality improvement, appropriate utilization of services, access to care and other clinical initiatives.

4. In partnership with community providers and ACH quality leaders, guides the development of ACHC and Home Care quality improvement priorities aligned with ACH priorities and uses improvement science methodologies to achieve ACHC and Home Care quality goals.

5. Develops a recommendation and facilitates implementation of financial incentive programs for the ACHC provider network in collaboration with ACHC staff, ACH Finance, ACH Managed Care, ACH Quality and ACH Physician leadership.

6. Identifies strategies for improved utilization management for at risk populations.

7. Partners with ACHC Manager of Network Development in the development, maintenance and operation of the ACHC provider network and, in partnership with the ACH business development team, ensures that those activities align with the external provider engagement, strategies and activities of ACH.

8. Partners with analytics and informatics teams to develop tools which support providers, practices, and the network achieve ACHC goals.

9. Promotes and maintains compliance with applicable laws and regulations, policies and procedures and the standards of accrediting bodies and works closely with ACH's legal and compliance teams to that end.

10. Develops strong relationships with physicians within the ACHC provider network, in the region and within ACH.

11. Other duties as required.

Other information:

Technical Experience

1. Experience working in integrated, team-based care models with a proven ability to collaborate with a broad cross-section of physicians, nurses, care managers, and other clinicians and administrators who support care delivery.

2. Demonstrated success in physician engagement & change management; experience in quality improvement; promotion of health equity; knowledge of health care financing, operational budgeting, medical economics, and high-level understanding of regulatory requirements in payer and provider operations.

3. Capability to build relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including community physicians, hospital leadership, and the board of directors.

4. Working knowledge of financial principles, strong analytical and organizational skills.

5. Experience with data management and use of data including benchmarking data to shape practice and implement practice changes.

6. Demonstrated ability to work on several projects in progress simultaneously.

7. Demonstrated a strong interest in public health through experience working at a state or national level with different public health institutes.

Education and Experience

Education: Medical Doctorate (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.), board certified in family medicine, medicine-pediatrics, pediatrics, or pediatric subspecialty.
License: Must have, or be eligible to obtain and maintain, a current and unrestricted license in Ohio.
Years of experience: Five years of pediatric medicine clinical experience as a practicing physician.
