OhioMeansJobs|Cleveland-Cuyahoga County is sourcing for a Lead Teacher position for a Direct Support Professional for a non-profit in 4 different cities Beachwood, Maple Heights, Parma, or Rocky River

DIRECTIONS ARE RECEIVED:   Operation Coordinator, Adult Activities Center Manager Chief Operations Officer

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Supervise, direct, and train individuals with developmental disabilities in a variety of settings.

NATURE OF WORK:             

  1. Provide training, direction, supervision, and other supports to individuals in various settings. Activities can be one-on-one or in groups.  Training can involve social skills, work skills, volunteer skills and various other types of skills and behavior training.
  2. Work cooperatively and communicate with other Company. Staff members, family members and others to ensure execution of the individuals’ ISPs.
  3. Ensure that assignments are completed in accordance with the specifications of the assignment. Ensure proper record-keeping and compliance with safety and other legal requirements.
  4. May be required to participate in assessment of individuals. Will provide help and encouragement to them in achieving their goals and objectives; encourage individuals to make decisions which will satisfy their wants and needs.  Will promote a positive culture and positive relationships with all interactions and activities.
  5. Document individual’s progress and goals and other related paperwork. May participate in conferences.
  6. Provide behavioral supports according to the individual’s plan.
  7. Assist in assessment and selection of individuals for various assignments. Determine the capabilities of individuals for specific assignments using assessment tools.
  8. Give and/or apply prescribed oral or topical medications to individuals. Perform necessary medical procedures, when delegated to do so by site nurse and as required by individuals.
  9. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Heavy lifting may be required at times.
  2. Transportation of individuals in Company. or personal vehicles may be required.
  3. Second shift work hours or flexible scheduled hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required depending on program needs. On call availability may be required.
  4. May be assigned to multiple sites.
  5. Company. staff may be asked to abide by work rules and procedures established by company hosting work or other activities.
  6. Frequent travel in-county to individuals’ residence and community employment sites and accompaniment of individuals on public transportation may be required.
  7. Licenses to perform specific work duties as required.

PERSONAL CONTACTS:

Frequent contact with individuals, Company. employees, and members of the public.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:               

Knowledge and understanding of:

  1. Developmental disabilities; behavior management; non-violent crisis intervention habilitation services; production principles.
  2. Basic principles of supervision and training.
  3. Job analysis, task analysis, and structured training techniques.
  4. Customer relations.
  5. Administration of medications and delegated nursing tasks, as required by individual assignments.

Skills and abilities to:

  1. Supervise, assess and train developmentally disabled adults and fade from direct supervision.
  2. Implement goals and give in-put to an individualized habilitation plan, behavior management program, or other related service plans.
  3. Perform and supervise others in fine or gross motor skills required for work assignments; organize work production.
  4. Proficiently use specific skills, machinery, equipment, tools, etc., that may be used frequently in community assignments.
  5. Maintain a safe work environment.
  6. Maintain positive work relations with individuals, parents, guardians, staff and others; interact effectively with others.
  7. Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  8. Deal with difficult problems or situations in a calm, professional manner.
  9. Complete records and other paperwork accurately and punctually.
  10. Perform basic arithmetic; operate a calculator or computer.
  11. Successfully complete training programs or courses required for state of Ohio registration and other required training programs, i.e. First Aid and CPR.

ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  1. Regular, predictable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the job.
  2. Sensitivity to needs of individuals and their families.
  3. Ability to balance needs of individuals against needs of companies hosting community‑based job sites.
  4. Above average stamina, endurance and strength in order to adequately intervene in behavioral crises; lifting, pulling and pushing.
  5. Ability to move quickly and run if necessary.
  6. High ethical standards in administering Company. policy and complying with state and federal law while discharging duties for this position.
  7. Respect for confidentiality of information.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:             

  1. High school diploma or GED certificate of high school equivalence;
  2. One year of experience working with adults with developmental disabilities, or vocational rehabilitation facility or applicable experience working in a business or industrial setting or one year of college.
  3. Valid state of Ohio driver's license and excellent driving record.
  4. Obtain and maintain a CPR/First Aid certification and the Ohio Department of DD (DODD) certification required for the position (certifications may be coordinated upon offer of employment.)
  5. Evidence of completing the 8-hours of mandatory training noted in OAC 5123:2-2-01 (training may be coordinated upon offer of employment.)

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:

The employee is required to;

  1. Maintain confidentiality.
  2. Report suspected or actual abuse/neglect issues as outlined in the MUI procedures.
  3. Work effectively and cooperatively with other employees, related public agency staff, community businesses and service providers; and other members of the public.
  4. Maintain valid certification, licensure or registration, if required for the position to maintain employment.
  5. Maintain all training and in-services required by the position and other meetings as assigned.
  6. Follow safety and health rules and regulations, including, but not limited to, OSHA standards.
