Assembler

Under the direction of the Departmental Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for building window systems for customers including the framing of glass which is free from defect and adhere to expected quality specifications.



Duties and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Runs power/air drills, band saws and utilizes drivers/mallets, on a precision basis for the purpose of building windshields made through the assembly of glass and aluminum parts.
Gathers all necessary supplies to run specific process (i.e. gloves, mallets, tape, boxes);
Maintains a clean work area.
Identifies mechanical and/or quality problems to proper department.
Performs all job functions adhering to established safety standards and always maintains safe practices.
Performs other duties as assigned.





Qualifications:

Ability to effectively read,and communicate both orally and in writing.
Knowledge of basic mathematics and capacity to accurately read a tape measure to ensure all parts conform to specifications.
Knowledge of blueprint reading with ability to identify reference marks for purposes of maintaining accurate parts or modifying those that may not meet the specified standards.
Knowledge of part numbers as detailed in blueprints.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Understanding of elementary processes involved in manufacturing.
Ability to lift more than twenty-five (25) pounds at least, twenty-five (25) to thirty (30) times per day.
Ability to work with a variety of tools.





DIFFICULTY OF WORK

The work consists of routine, repetitive, standard but sometimes varied tasks in the quality assembly of glass windshields. The ability to sort, maneuver and inspect the newly assembled part is essential to the process to ensure customer satisfaction. Incumbent will occasionally be required to hold large parts in place while attempting to glue them together creating an awkward physical situation.



RESPONSIBILITY

Incumbent is responsible for following general directives by shift supervisor. Work requires periodic review of assignments for adherence to directives and overall quality of product. Specification sheets determine what should be built but incumbent is often left with personal ingenuity in determining how to produce windows with best results. Errors in following directives will result in a poor-quality product, which may produce scrap or force possible return from customer.



PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS

Incumbent has contact with other plant employees. The purpose of these contacts is to exchange information regarding various window types to assemble, parts necessary for the process and to maintain production/quality standards and goals.



PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a typical, comfortable, well-lit, production environment. Work may consist of times requiring some decision making in the application of the best methods necessary to make parts fit. Frequent heavy lifting and repeated twisting of parts in unusual ways, however, may require an individual who possesses the agility and stamina to perform work.
