Job Description
A Project Engineer is directly responsible for the technical excellence and the technical coordination of assigned projects and indirectly responsible for project profitability, with these responsibilities crossing multiple engineering disciplines. This individual will guide the engineering process in addition to monitoring all phases of work beyond engineering such as procurement, manufacturing, erection and commissioning. As the project technical liaison, they will be intimately involved with communications between both internal and external customers, and will strive to reduce costs in all project phases to insure profitability while maintaining schedule commitments. This person is able to technically lead larger projects (core boiler scope, significant boiler retrofits or larger environmental projects).
Acts as a technical extension of the Project Manager coordinating the development and the exchange of information as well as technical correspondence between the customer, A/E, vendors, B&W (external and internal), and various other organizations working on the Project.
Obtain the ability to lead discussions such as those opposite an AE or customer, and with vendors providing equipment on routine and unique/first of a kind applications.
Must know the contract obligations for the assignment including scope, cost, schedule, and also know scope split responsibilities of other PE's on the project.
Partner with the project manager as the technical lead during customer project meetings, provide evaluations of potential first-time vendors, and participate in project where joint venture and licensee interfacing is required.
Serve as the technical interface between B&W customers, vendors, sublet engineers, fabricators, and the erector. Activities include the development of specification and document submittal requirements, resolution of questions, monitoring of schedule commitments and cost allocations, directing Purchasing on the procurement of these commodities, and monitoring invoicing (as required).
Monitor engineering man-hour expenditures, manage technical guarantee risk throughout the project, and work closely with shop and field personnel to resolve problems during manufacture, construction and start up phases of the project.
Coordinate the resolution of engineering errors. Will be involved in QA inspections (as required), support the resolution ofvendor claims, and work with the Erector to solve field fit-up problems and disposition of Site Problem Reports.
Actively work with Project Controls to ensure compliance throughout all project phases by identifying project changes, evaluating potential cost variances and determining schedule impact before the changes are implemented.
Manage engineering change control with minimum supervision to maintain engineering schedule and manhour estimates.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Technology (or significant relevant working experience in lieu of degree)
10-12 years experience in a relevant field preferred.
A Professional Engineer's license is desirable.
Must have relevant engineering background and sufficient knowledge and interpersonal skills to coordinate multiple engineering activities simultaneously.
