Job Description

Shift: Monday - Friday 1 pm - 9 pm with occasional overtime as needed

Summary of Position

This position is with primary responsibility for operating a CNC, VTL, and/or Mazak units. This individual will be fully knowledgeable about all aspects of the full operation of the equipment. On a day-to-day basis, the CNC Operator/Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating machine tools to produce precision parts, producing small batches or large quantities of parts and ensuring products meet precise specifications. Willingness and aptitude to be cross-trained to operate multiple machines is an asset in this position. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Functional

  • Create and edit specialized programs with G&M codes based upon information provided on prints.
  • Complete set-ups for jobs using knowledge of different tool fixtures and changeovers.
  • Read prints to determine correct placement of parts in tool fixtures.
  • Perform part inspections and document the results on inspection sheets using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers or height gauges.
  • Make adjustments to the programming or tool offsets as needed to maintain part tolerances.
  • Ensure safe operation by adhering to safety procedures and regulations at all times.
  • Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements.
  • May run more than one unit simultaneously.
  • Other duties as required to support the business.

Educational Requirements:

  • Requires high school diploma and basic math skills
  • Experience with specialized programming languages to CNC. VTL and/or Mazak machines.

Experience Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of as a CNC Operator Machinist
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment operating the same or substantially similar equipment.
  • Solid understanding of blueprints and the ability to perform work from them.
  • Ability to use various measuring tools like calipers, micrometers, indicators, bore and height gauges
  • Ability to use geometry and trigonometry in program calculations a plus
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to create and edit programs with G&M codes
  • CAD/CAM experience a plus
  • Knowledge of GD&T
  • Comfortable working with tolerances of +/-0005"

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and manipulate 65 pounds occasionally with assistance.
  • Ability to work more than 40 hours per week or 8 hours per day in order to support business needs.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to frequently bend, stoop.
