Job Description: Christ Presbyterian Church in Canton, OH, is hiring a full-time Director of Children’s and Family Ministries.

 

Christ Presbyterian Church (Presbyterian Church USA) (CPC), 400 members strong and located in the heart of downtown Canton, OH, exists to glorify God, lead people to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ, build one another up in spiritual maturity, and send out servants to share the Good News in word and deed. Our church is a body of believers that is committed to Jesus Christ and is firmly grounded in the teachings of the Bible. As followers of Jesus Christ, we are seeking to proclaim God’s love to the world in our educational ministries, in our service to the community and national and international ministries, and in the ministry of caring for each other. We nurture a family of faith by building a joyful community that engages in the life of the church by sharing mutual encouragement, compassionate care and gracious hospitality.

 

Our church is currently searching for a Director of Children’s and Family Ministries. One who wishes to apply for this position must be a professing Christian with an understanding of, or a willingness to learn, Presbyterian/Reformed theology; a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred with study emphasis on Christian Education teaching, counseling, psychology and/or theology preferred. They will lead a children’s discipleship program designed to develop young Christians who appreciate and engage Christ’s call to discipleship, and desire to live and work for the Kingdom of God and will provide faith development and support to families of the church and in the broader community.  Prior experience working with children and families is preferred.

 

The Director of Children’s and Family Ministries is under the direction of co-pastors with input and evaluation by the Christian Education Ministry, Camp Ministries and the Personnel Ministry. The position is a salaried, full-time position with starting salary of $45,000 - $55,000, depending on experience, and a comprehensive benefits package.

 

The candidate must understand and be willing to be part of a team approach to ministry, must be guided and nurtured by holy Scripture and a reformed understanding of faith, relate and interact well with children, youth and adults. The candidate must also demonstrate good oral and written communication skills and good organizational skills. They must also be able to effectively recruit and supervise lay volunteers, skillfully lead children in worship and be skillful in selecting and utilizing curriculum for children, and in teaching and leading Sunday School.

 

In all things, the Director of Children’s and Family Ministries must encourage all members of the church to respond to God’s grace through worship and praise, respond to God’s grace by allowing God to change them into the likeness of Jesus Christ and respond to God’s grace by allowing God to show his love through them to others. 

 

Specifically, the Director of Children’s and Family Ministries will work with CPC staff and members of the congregation to create, then lead a ministry for children and young adults with emphasis on the development of a life that reflects the likeness of Christ, values the life of fellowship and worship and serves Christ in all walks of life. This will involve organizing and determining resources for the Sunday School program, including Kid’s Church and the church nursery program, programs for young adults and coordinating these efforts with those of Camp Wakonda. It will also require providing additional resources beyond Sunday morning for children, young adults and families that encourage faith formation and fellowship in partnership with the Director of Youth and Family Ministries and maintaining the children’s library. It will require attendance at staff meetings, the development of a Children’s and Family Ministries team and the recruitment and training of volunteers to serve as teachers and fellowship leaders. One in this position shall develop relationships through personal contact with children and their families, attend children’s events in their schools and communities and reach out to support children in the broader community. And it will involve assisting in worship, conducting children’s sermons, supplying worship resources to provide for increased children’s involvement in the services and performing any other appropriate duties as assigned by the co-pastors.

Details: Full time. First Shift (flexible). 40 hours/week. Sunday through Saturday, Rotating, Split. Travel required (must use your own car). $45,000 to $55,000/year (based on experience).

 

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
