Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Transportation Planner, we'll count on you to:

HDR is seeking a Transportation Planner to support our Ohio transit team. In the role of Transportation Planner, we'll count on you to:


Demonstrate public participation and planning experience
Collect, assimilate and manage project-related data
Create technical reports, presentations, and other materials to document planning study findings
Assist in preparation and participation of public information meetings
Plan and monitor aspects of multidiscipline transportation planning and transit projects
Assist in completion of required studies, documents and reports
Participate in planning work sessions in conjunction with appropriate technical professionals and other disciplines
Coordinate workload to complete deliverables on schedule
Support a variety of transportation planning projects including complete streets, bicycle planning, transit planning, long range planning, community planning, or concept development.
Participate in corridor studies associated with FTA CIG projects
Create technical reports, presentations, and other materials for stakeholders and clients to document planning study and concept design findings

Work to be expected includes:


Transit plans
Local, regional and statewide multimodal transportation plans
Transit oriented development
Corridor studies
Short and Long Range Transit and Transportation Plans
Transportation planning reports
Transit studies for multiple modes
Bicycle and pedestrian studies
Community engagement
Assist in projects relating to emerging transportation technologies
Perform other duties as needed

Required Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in Planning or a related field
2 years of relevant transportation planning experience
Possess excellent analytical and communication skills
Understanding of transportation and transit planning principles
Positive attitude and ability to work independently or as part of a team
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks
Demonstrated presentation skills
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Geographic Information Systems, and Adobe InDesign
Possess excellent writing skills
An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail and quality

Preferred Qualifications


American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)
Master's degree preferred
Transit, Bicycle, and Pedestrian Planning Experience
Experience coordinating with transit agencies, municipalities, state, and federal government organizations with relevance to transportation and transit in Ohio
Local candidates preferred
