POSITION SUMMARY

The Analyst II River Road position reports directly to the Laboratory Services Manager. This position conducts chemical and physical laboratory analyses according to compendia or defined methodology to make qualitative and quantitative analyses of solids, liquids, and gaseous materials for quality control of products, raw materials, or processes, calibrations, and other work involving experimental, theoretical, or practical application of chemistry and related sciences. Records observations, measurements, and records results following strict Good Manufacturing Practices for Food, Cosmetic or Pharmaceutical purposes.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education, Credentials, Licenses:



Associates or B.A. or B.S. Degree in Chemistry or related discipline or equivalent combination of experience and education.


Kind & Length of Experience



This position requires two or more years of experience in an analytical, physical testing, and/or general wet chemistry laboratory.
Should be able to learn new technologies and methods with minimal guidance.
Should be able to train others in all methods they run and be able to conduct basic troubleshooting independently following principles of good science.
Position requires standing on feet most of the day and some climbing of stairs.
Should be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
Ability to visually discern color.
Ability to distinguish odor and fragrance types.
Full dexterity with hands and arms.
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment which may include nitrile gloves, face shields, safety glasses, steel toe work shoes, aprons or lab coat.

PERFORMANCE MEASURES AND STANDARDS



Perform various analyses accurately according to defined methodology for Biodiesel, Food, Feed, Cosmetic, Pharmaceutical industries in order to qualify material. Examples of general test methods include, but not limited to:


Physical Properties Testing: Appearance, Clarity, Specific Gravity, Melting Point
Chemical Properties Testing: Moisture, pH, salt, Total Fatty Acids, Iodine value, Hydroxyl Value, carbonyls, Acid Value, Titrations, Assays
Instrumental Testing : UV-Vis Absorbance, Gas Chromatography, Ion Chromatography, High Performance Liquid Chromatography




Monitor product quality to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
Compile and interpret results of tests and analyses.
Set up and conduct chemical experiments, tests, and analyses, using good science & GMP techniques within set timelines.
Generate Certificates of Analysis and enter lot data using the defined software systems under GMP procedures.
Provide and maintain a safe work environment by complying with all safe practices and procedures.
Prepare chemical solutions for products or processes, following standardized formulas, or create experimental formulas.
Maintain, clean, and calibrate laboratory instruments or equipment.
Maintain the laboratory product retain and sample disposal process.
Perform routine maintenance or troubleshooting on laboratory equipment when required.
Document all testing data properly and neatly according to Good Documentation Practices. Prepare testing logbooks and proper data forms under controlled process.
Perform Out-of-Specification or Out-of-Calibration procedure when a product or equipment does not meet specification.
Identify any deviations from the laboratory management system or from the procedures for performing laboratory activities.
Adhere to all quality procedures, processes as defined by customer, CNA and regulatory compliance.
Help monitor inventory of reagents and materials to maintain supplies at minimum required levels.
Execute sample or data requests from internal or external customers to meet business needs.
In your absence you are to ensure that the tasks assigned to you are adequately covered by trained personnel. You are responsible to communicate and work with your manager to ensure your workload is covered when you are out.
Monitoring/measurement/calibration of lab equipment.
Support efforts to implement and maintain ISO17025 for current and future scope.
Adhere to all environmental, health, safety, and security requirements covered under local, state, and federal regulations;
Follow all RC14001 guiding principles, policies, procedures, and other requirements.
Other duties as assigned.
