Role description:

Arcadis is currently seeking a Water Engineering Intern to join our Akron, OH office. We are looking for dedicated, creative, and energetic candidates interested in tackling challenges and developing sustainable solutions to address water issues like water quality, asset management, drinking water/wastewater design, stormwater management, and design for construction. Collaborating with our experienced water professionals, you will support and drive the development of projects, interact, and work with clients, and develop your technical capabilities

Role accountabilities:
  • Review of example plans and specs and mentoring on how to read them
  • Field trips to see our designs under construction;
  • Development of simple spreadsheet or other supporting work that is billable to a project
  • Perform planning studies, design and field investigations for water and wastewater projects (including collection systems, transmission, and distribution, pumping stations and treatment plants).
  • Support the team in tasks ranging from general fieldwork to technical office work.
  • Perform a variety of investigation, design, and construction related work in support of small and large infrastructure projects
  • Evaluate, plan, design and support management of projects for water/wastewater/ stormwater treatment and conveyance (treatment facilities, pipelines, and pumping facilities).
  • Create written technical reports, Preliminary Design Reports, evaluation memorandums, letters, spreadsheets, email and permitting applications.
  • Work independently and as part of a team, with the flexibility to accommodate collaboration with team members
  • Work on multiple concurrent projects with multiple deadlines, ensuring completion per project budgets and timelines
  • Meet project, client and regulatory requirements, standards, and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of engineering concepts, theories, and practices related to water/wastewater/stormwater
  • Basic understanding/ proficiency with AutoCAD (both 2D and 3D)
  • Familiarity/experience with ArcGIS, WaterCAD, ArcGIS, and some hydraulic modeling software would be ideal but is not required.

Qualifications & Experience:

Preferred Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a program seeking a degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • Previous internship or co-op experience involving similar civil engineering work
  • Involvement in professional engineering club(s) or other engineering related extra curricular activities
