The Company is searching for individuals with electrical expertise for the Overhead Department of the Rail District’s Power & Way Section.  The position of Line Maintainer 453 is responsible for the daily and seasonal maintenance of our overhead and underground power lines along the Blue, Green and Red Lines of our Transit System.  We utilize high-voltage electricity from local utility suppliers to provide traction power for our Transit System.

Duties:Takes safety precautions and performs safety measures. Inspection, maintenance and repair of all overhead and underground power lines, signal cables, control and communication cables. Drives and stocks line cars and trucks. Maintains underground power lines. Installs or takes down power line poles as necessary. Restrings and re-tensions power line wires and checks, adjusts and/or replaces I-beams, T-towers, U-towers. Fill in for grade 653 Line Maintainer, Test for voltage and hang grounds on overhead lines. This position will promote a safe and secure atmosphere, follow all safety and security rules and perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements: Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. Applicants must have successfully completed technical courses in electrical theory both AC and DC, taken at the high school or post high school level. Applicants must have at least one year of experience working on high voltage power distribution or related traction and electrification systems either by in-house experience or recognized trade school or apprenticeship training program.  Applicants must be willing and able to work around high voltage power lines and at heights that may exceed fifty (50) feet. Applicants must have a GOOD DRIVING RECORD with no more than FOUR (4) POINTS, in the past three years. Applicants must have A TEMPORARY CDL, Class “A” or “B" with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements OR a valid STATE OF OHIO COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE (CDL) Class “A” or “B” with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements.

Successful candidates will be expected to pass a background check and post-offer physical that is job related and consistent with business necessity.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.  The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, climb, reach with hands and arms, handle or feel, see with normal visual acuity, talk, speak and hear.  The employee is occasionally required to lift materials up to 50 lbs.  The employee is regularly required to monitor a video display terminal.

Mental Demands: Reading, watching, studying, observing, focused listening.  Concentrated attention to detail for prolonged periods of time.  Auditing, inspecting, tabulating data, proofreading, analyzing and evaluating.

Additional Information: The performance of these duties may be required at any time of the day or night, any day and night of the week.  The position is a bargaining unit position.  The position is also safety sensitive and subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Examination Information: Candidates selected to participate in the hiring process will be notified of the exact time and place of the examination. The examination process will consist of three parts: a written examination, performance assessment and/or interview, and record evaluation (for internal candidates only). Candidates must attain a minimum of 70% on all parts of the process, except 60% on the interview portion, to move forward in the process.

Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows:

External candidates: Written 50%, Performance Assessment and/or Interview 50%. Internal candidates: Written 50%, Performance Assessment and/or Interview 35%, Record Evaluation 15%. All candidates must score a minimum composite score of 70% in order to establish eligibility for the portion. Internal candidates must meet all record evaluation criteria in order to gain the 15% weighting. Records evaluation information includes a review of the following:

        5 or more absence occurrences

        2 or more AWOL or absence control suspensions

        3 or more active written reminders (regardless of the level)

        5 or more misses (regardless of whether they are active or not active)

        4 or more active tardies

        Drug or alcohol suspension

        Drivers License Policy suspension (CDL or regular)

        Active Decision-Making Leave (DML)
