Description:
The Automotive Fleet Mechanic Apprentice will perform all duties of the Fleet Mechanic role as outlined below. This person will fill in when the fleet mechanic is absent and will assume the Fleet Mechanic role when the position becomes permanently available. The class advancement of the Fleet Mechanic Apprentice will be the same as that for a Multicraft Maintenance Technician.
The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for executing maintenance work on all Powered Industrial Vehicles (PIVs) and other maintenance equipment. The primary focus is to create and adhere to a preventative maintenance schedule for the fleet and to make any necessary repairs in a timely manner.
This position will require flexibility but will be primarily a full-time day shift role and will report to the Maintenance Leader.
Responsibilities:
Live and adhere to the Safety Culture of Zero Accidents, and ensure plant safety needs are given top priority
Automotive Fleet Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance of all PIVs including golf carts, floor sweepers, tractor, tug trailers, cranes, lifts, etc. in addition to all maintenance equipment such as lathes, drill press, shear, etc.
Keep track of and develop maintenance timelines and schedules
Perform a variety of routine tasks such as changing oil and tires
Troubleshoot breakdowns and determine repair needs
Contact manufacturers and vendors for recommended maintenance and spare parts
Keep an organized inventory and record of spare parts
Assist with plant maintenance on scheduled maintenance days
Maintain accurate records of vehicle and equipment service and repairs
Coordinate with outside services to provided technical support as needed
Maintain a clean and organized work area
Perform other related duties consistent with the nature of the job as directed by the supervisor.

Job Requirements:
Education/Experience
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Must be legally able to work in the United States
Minimum 5 years automotive maintenance experience
Read, write, and speak English
Perform basic arithmetic - addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and work with fractions
Able to read blueprints, equipment schematics, and parts breakdowns
Able to use manuals, computer searches, and/or vendor contacts to research parts, materials, and tools
Able to safety operate machine shop equipment and tools
Physical Requirements
Must be drug and alcohol free
Able to routinely lift up to 40 lbs without assistance
Work in extreme hot/cold manufacturing environment
Able to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time
Able to work in cramped areas and enter confined spaces
Able to work at heights
Able to walk up and down ladders, stairs, and platforms frequently
Able to safeguard self with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - steel toed shoes, gloves, eye protection (glasses, goggles, and/or face shields), and face masks as necessary
