Job Description Summary: The Assistant Vice President of Accreditation, Assessment, and Compliance for Miami University provides oversight of assessment activities for program development, evaluation, and accreditation. The Assistant Vice President supervises and coordinates accreditation activities, including leading the preparation/submission of required accreditation reports, overseeing annual program assessments and promoting a "culture of assessment," and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations related to curriculum and academic policies. The Assistant Vice President ensures program assessment activities are designed, implemented, analyzed, and reported in a manner that is useful for curricular and program improvement.

Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Advise the Provost and university leadership on accreditation initiatives related to the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), state and federal compliance, and disciplinary accreditation processes.
  • Assist departments and academic divisions with disciplinary accreditation processes.
  • Work with Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education on all state compliance reporting (e.g., new programs, discontinued programs, transfer assurance, etc.) and ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations. 
  • Work with the Associate Vice President for Institutional Research and Data Analysts in the academic divisions to ensure accurate and timely data collection, assessment, analysis, and reports.
  • Analyze trends and outcomes and provide analysis for assessing student learning goals.
  • Serve as lead for accreditation preparation/submission of required reports for the Higher Learning Commission and logistics for site visits.
  • Support data-driven decision-making through centralized reporting.
  • Promote the understanding, articulation, and documentation of student learning outcomes for each program and for the University as a whole.
  • Works with the Center for Teaching Excellence to aid faculty members in developing measurable student learning outcomes and designing curriculum maps to assess student learning.
  • Ensure program assessment activities are designed, implemented, analyzed, and reported in a manner that is useful for curricular and program improvement, including coordination with the Office of Liberal Education and regular assessment of the Miami Plan.
  • Assist the Associate Provost with
    •   Department Planning and Improvement (academic program review) processes
    •   Training faculty and staff on assessment best practices, compliance needs, and using data for continuous improvement.
  • Lead the academic program incubator initiative, which engages in strategic planning around academic program development.
  • Review new program proposals to ensure alignment with accreditation and institutional standards and policies.
  • Oversee compliance with NC-SARA and professional licensure requirements. 
  • Support the Assistant Vice President for Online Learning and Professional Education with compliance issues related to online academic program delivery. 
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Other duties as assigned

​Minimum Qualifications:

Required: Master’s degree required in Education, Assessment, Psychology, or a related field with post-bachelor’s coursework, training, or experience in research methodology, program assessment, or statistics. Five years of experience in higher education assessment and research design; strong written and oral communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Education, Assessment, Psychology, or a related field, Familiarity with the Higher Learning Commission Standards of Accreditation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of assessment of student learning, program evaluation, quantitative and qualitative research methods, and statistical analysis.
  • Experience in, and knowledge of the accreditation process.
  • Experience with national, regional, and disciplinary accreditation.
  • Demonstrated leadership working across an array of stakeholders.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Strong managerial/supervisory skills.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and problem-solve.
  • Desire to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
