Overview





The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) team at the NASA Glenn Research Center provides engineering and technical services in the aeronautics, space power and propulsion test facilities. We are currently seeking a Quality Assurance Inspector candidate in the Manufaturing Division of the Facilities, Test, and Manufacturing Directorate at NASA GRC.


Responsibilities





Function of Position: Serves as a primary Quality Inspector in the Manufacturing Division of the Facilities, Test, and Manufacturing Directorate at NASA GRC. This position is part of a team responsible for incoming, in-process and final inspection of hardware to ensure product quality and customer satisfaction Interacts with branch chiefs, quality, safety and mission assurance, design and manufacturing engineers, project managers, manufacturing leads and technicians.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Perform In-process, finished product, and First Article inspections using a variety of test and measurement equipment and software to include: Zeiss & Calypso, portable and fixed coordinate measuring machines, digital video measurement systems, optical comparators, laser trackers, calipers, micrometers, and other specialized gauges to examine product for defects and deviations from requirements.

2. Perform incoming material/hardware inspection to include visual, dimensional inspection and review and verification of supplier certificates and/or quality control test results to determine conformance with requirements.

3. Reads and understands blueprints, drawings, specifications, technical information, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in order to perform proper product inspections.

4. Documents inspection results accurately and completely using an array of controlled inspection forms, logs, and reports (ex: NASA GRC 987, NASA GRC 989).

5. Uploads and maintains inspection documents, forms, logs, certificates of conformance and records in files and databases as required.

6. Provide input and updates to Division standards (GLP-FF-8072.1C and GLWI-FF-8730.1A) to maintain compliance to IS9001/AS9100 and other NASA standards.

7. Accepts or rejects finished products, accurately completes appropriate hardware condition tags, fosters continuous improvement and aids in facility corrective and preventive action measures.

8. Working knowledge of Bond Control and segregation of non-conforming hardware and material.

9. Determines calibration status and maintains a log of calibration status of Measurement and Test Equipment (MTE) and ensure that equipment is in a safe and useable condition.

10. Evaluate, as required, accuracy of tooling used for manufacturing purposes using inspection processes. Evaluate includes identifying the accuracy and understanding the contributing factors of the accuracy and any resulting impacts.

11. Maintain safe working environment by complying with NASA GRC regulations.

12. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Team-oriented and interacts professionally and effectively with customers, teammates and co-workers.

13. Completes other tasks as assigned to include input of data into quality databases.


Qualifications





1. Completion of a technical, and/or vocational trades training program in the field of Manufacturing, with 5 years minimum experience as a quality assurance inspector or Journeyman T&D Maker. Associate degree in manufacturing engineering technology is not required, but a plus.

2. Extensive ability to read and understands blueprints, drawings, specifications, technical information and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in order to perform proper product inspections.

3. Working knowledge of IS9001/AS 9100OSHA requirements relating to a manufacturing environment.

4. Ability to use computer based reporting systems to generate, or document inspection reports.

5. Ability to use proper judgment and decisions to complete work assignments on schedule with minimal supervision.

6. Must be self-motivated and a "Team Player" with good interpersonal and communication skills.

7. Must be able to organize time and assignments to properly prioritize efforts for maximum effectiveness.
