Job Description

FLEET SERVICES REGIONAL TECHNICIAN - EAST COAST

Austin Technology is responsible for the effective and safe performance of our fleet of explosives delivery units throughout the United States and Canada. As a member of the Fleet Services team, you will be responsible for ensuring the fleet of Mobile Manufacturing Units within your region are operating withing specification, operators are trained in the on-bench manufacturing process, and that the maintenance of the units is being carried out.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Commission new, rebuilt and in-service equipment
Ensure that all new equipment operates as designed. This includes new equipment, current equipment and re-build equipment.
Ensure that APC products are properly manufactured according to specifications
Provide phone support to operators and maintenance personnel about proper operation
Review/ Update operating manuals and participate in operator training material as required
Provide High level troubleshooting of equipment and performance issues
Identify contractor requirements and assist with schedule management of contractors
Assist with installation guidance of the system with the result of training customer in installation/operation and maintenance of the control system
Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience


A high school diploma or GED is required.
MSHA part 46 and/or part 48 training is highly valued
Vocational training, technical certifications, or an associate degree in fields such as electronics, mechanics, or engineering is highly valued.
Experience Operating an MMU or similar equipment is highly valued.
Previous experience in a field service role or a related technical position is highly valued.
Hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
Experience in troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of equipment.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities


Mechanical, Electrical, and Hydraulic Systems: Basic understanding of hydraulic systems, AC/DC powered control systems, and mechanical equipment (pumps, augers, gearboxes).
Troubleshooting: High-level troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving equipment and performance issues.
Maintenance: Knowledge of proper maintenance procedures, hands-on maintenance experience, and ability to provide guidance on improving maintenance programs.
Schematics: Ability to read and understand schematics and communicate this information effectively to customers.
Customer Support: Experience providing phone support to operators and maintenance personnel, offering guidance on proper operation and maintenance procedures.
Documentation and Training: Ability to review and update operating manuals, create training materials, and provide training on safe operation and maintenance procedures.
Project Management: Skills in managing special projects, including equipment rebuilds and control system upgrades, establishing work scopes, timelines, and cost estimates.

Work Environment

Frequent Travel: Field Service Technicians often need to travel frequently to various customer sites, which may include local, regional, or even national locations.


Travel between 50-65% is required, typically Monday through Friday.
Driving: A valid driver's license is required.
Real ID Compliant driver's license or passport required (for flying).

Physical Demands


Lifting and Carrying: Regularly lift and carry heavy equipment and tools, often weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
Standing and Walking: Prolonged periods of standing and walking are common, as technicians move around job sites and perform tasks.
Climbing and Bending: Frequent climbing, bending, kneeling, and crouching to access equipment and perform maintenance or repairs.
Manual Dexterity: Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity are essential for handling tools and small components.
Working in Various Conditions: Ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, or snow.
Safety Gear: Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots is often required.
