You will be responsible for timing and recording of a horse’s workout times during training. You will be responsible for supervising the assembly of thoroughbreds’ in the Paddock.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Will verify tattoo numbers or other approved identification on horses and papers and reports any ineligibilities to racing officials.
- Ensure only authorized persons are permitted in the paddock
- Assist in pre-race day scratching of horses, enter entries.
- Read proof to ensure correct final program.
- Enter races in the computer.
- Check turf shoes during turf season, verify and notify stewards.
- Register in and out foal papers
- Maintain and update racing website; post for Director of Racing.
- Insert foal papers in books for all races.
- Time horses during their morning workouts.
- Identify horses before workouts
- Record time and other information
- The ability of timing multiple horses at once
- All other duties as assigned.
REPORTING LINE
You will report directly to the Racing Secretary then to Director of Racing.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Must have excellent communication skills, be polite, and present a neat appearance at all times.
- Must have knowledge of rules and regulations of Thoroughbred Racing.
- Must have knowledge of the WV Rules of Racing.
- Must have working knowledge of MS Office.
- Experience in thoroughbred horse racing environment is preferred.
- The ability to work with others as a team in an efficient manner.
- You will need to be available to work all shifts.
- Flexible schedule must be able to work split shifts.
- The ability to work in a fast –paced environment and stressful situations.
- You must be at least 21 years old.
- You also must be able to pass a background investigation and obtain and maintain a WV Racing License.
EDUCATIONAL AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred but not necessary.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
You will need to be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time. The ability to push, pull, kneel, twist, carry and lift up to 50 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Will be exposed to working in a noisy, smoke/secondary smoke environment and seasonal elements.
