Job Description
Summary/Objective
The Safety & Security Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the safety, well-being, and security of students, staff, and visitors across school campuses. The Coordinator helps implement safety programs, conducts routine security checks, assists with emergency planning, and helps ensure district-wide compliance with applicable safety regulations. This position works collaboratively with school administrators, custodial and facilities staff, and local emergency responders.
Essential Functions
• Assist with implementation and maintenance district-wide safety and emergency response plans, including fire, lockdown, evacuation, and weather-related procedures.
• Support school administrators in conducting drills and ensuring compliance with state-mandated safety protocols.
• Conduct regular safety and security audits of school buildings and grounds through routine site visits and regular communication with school staff; report hazards and help coordinate corrective actions.
• Monitor building access control systems, surveillance equipment, and visitor management protocols.
• Assist in coordinating and conducting safety-related training for staff, including CPR/First Aid, AED, and crisis response procedures.
• Track and log safety violations and behavioral threats; maintain confidential documentation.
• Ensure safety signage, emergency exit plans, and first aid materials are in place and up to date.
• Monitor compliance with local building/fire codes, and district policies.
• Support positive school climate initiatives by helping to maintain safe, orderly, and respectful learning environments.
• Ensure school Emergency Management Plans and related tests, training, and documentation, are up to date and compliant with current laws and regulations.
• Track and maintain safety and security compliance documentation needed for local jurisdictions, state agencies, and sponsors.
• Attend conferences, meetings, and trainings pertaining to school safety and security.
• Assist in the preparation of safety and security related budget.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This position typically requires unusual work hours, responding to emergency and alarm calls at all times .
Travel
Regular, 30-50%, to school campuses across the state
Required Education and Experience
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Experience in safety, security operations, or related field
Preferred Education and Experience
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Public Safety, Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, Education
• Two years of experience in safety and security in a school environment
