Job Description: The Stark County Community Action Agency in Canton, OH, is hiring a full-time Head Cook.
Position Concept:
Prepare quantity and appropriate meals for the children in the Head Start and/or Early Head Start program according to the Head Start performance standards, Health Department regulations, DCY regulations and USDA requirements.
Duties:
- Prepare quality foods for center-based children, for breakfast, lunch and snack following proper sanitation and cooking methods that maintain the nutrient value of the food.
- Ensure that foods are stored, held and served at correct temperature.
- Plan daily schedule to ensure meals are served in a timely manner according to scheduled meal times.
- Adhere to and follow written recipes and menu.
- Read and become familiar with the need of the children being served. Be knowledgeable of all food allergies, restrictions and substitutions.
- Utilize the 3065 Health Events Status Report, to prepare/obtain foods for children with food allergies/intolerance. Label the food item with the child’s name, date and room number.
- Confers with Nutrition Manager when a menu change is necessary to ensure that substituted food maintains compliance with the CACFP Meal Pattern for Children. Complete a Menu Substitution Form.
- Maintain cleanliness of all carts and equipment used for food preparation, service, storage and transportation. Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and dishwashing area at all times.
- Receive food deliveries checking items against invoice. Date, label and stock foods according to FIFO.Sign invoice and give to Nutrition Manager. Notify Nutrition Manager of any problems with delivery before signing invoice.
- Conduct annual CACFP Inventory. Provide completed inventory record to Nutrition Manager.
- Order food and supplies in absence of Nutrition Manager.
- Attend all required trainings and in-services.
- Maintain confidentiality in all areas for children, families, staff and records.
- Adhere to agency personnel policies and procedures and Head Start performance standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Must possess high school diploma or GED equivalent. Must possess at least two (2) years of experience with large volume cooking in a supervisory capacity.
- Ohio certification in ServSafe food protection – Level 2 minimum.
- Must have demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills. Must possess ability to seek solutions and solve problems.
- Pre-employment background check, drug screen and physical required.
- A current, valid driver’s license is required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. Pushes, lifts, bends, reaches during work hours. Ability to lift 40 pounds.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and often high-stress environment as well as the ability to adapt quickly to workload changes.
- Ability to deal with inside and outside clientele and vendors in a diplomatic and courteous manner while assuring adherence to SCCAA policies and procedures.
Working Conditions:
- Various noises associated with a kitchen environment.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals such as dish detergent, window cleaner and floor cleaner.
Details: Full time. First Shift (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.). 40 hours/week. Monday through Friday. $19.01/hour.
Qualifications: High school diploma / GED. Must have ServSafe Level 2 certification. Must have at least 2 years of experience. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
Driver’s License Requirement(s): Must have a valid driver’s license.
