Position Summary

The Benefits Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day administration, coordination, and continuous improvement of STERIS's domestic group benefit plans, including health, welfare, and leave of absence programs. This role manages processes and oversees vendor performance to ensure high-quality service delivery to employees. The incumbent ensures data integrity, generates and analyzes reports for follow-up actions, and identifies, develops, and implements process improvements to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of benefits and leave administration.

*This position is located onsite in Mentor, Ohio with an opportunity for a hybrid work schedule upon successful completion of onboarding plan.

What You'll do as a Benefits Administrator


Serves as the primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators to resolve escalated claims, billing, and enrollment issues.
Participates in system enhancements, upgrades, configurations, and implementations related to benefits administration.
Acts as a subject matter expert on group benefits administration and compliance with applicable regulations.
Responds to participant inquiries (active and retiree) via phone and email in accordance with departmental SLAs.
Manages retiree benefits administration, including billing, open enrollment communications, life claim processing, and vendor coordination.
Administers leave management programs and policies, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws (e.g., FMLA, STD, LTD, ADA, and other statutory leaves).
Performs enrollment audits, reconciliations, and prepares reports; investigates and resolves discrepancies in file feeds.
Completes benefit-related forms, including Medicare, QMSCO, and other required documentation.
Processes daily enrollment transactions in the benefits enrollment system.
Performs manual vendor enrollments as needed.
Prepares monthly headcount and ad hoc reports to analyze claim trends.
Manages purchase orders and vendor invoice processing; reviews, approves, and reconciles monthly carrier bills.
Leads the coordination of the annual open enrollment process, including material distribution, meeting logistics, website updates, and system/vendor configuration.
Conducts benefits orientation sessions as needed.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

Required


Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field and 0-3 years experience in Benefits with relevant work experience; i.e. customer service, operations, etc.
In lieu of degree 6 years' of benefits administration experience will be accepted
Understanding of regulatory framework governing benefits and HR including but not limited to HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, ERISA, and benefits-related DOL and IRS regulations.

Experience with an HRIS system preferred

Skills


Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both internal and external vendors and customers.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work in a fast paced environment and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
Prior customer service and/or administrative experience required.
Ability to follow directions, set priorities, organize, implement and administer effectively in all areas of accountability.
Excellent use of Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel required.
Access database skills.
Demonstrated maturity in dealing with different level of employees in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated use of sound judgment and commitment to confidentiality at all times.
Demonstrated exceptional customer service, telephone skills with a commitment to detail.

Pay range for this opportunity is$58,012.50-$75,075.00.This position is eligible forbonus participation.

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
