Summary:
The Associate Dean for Clinical Education is responsible for overseeing and advancing the clinical learning opportunities for medical students in alignment with the school’s mission to provide innovative, community-focused medical education. This position will lead the design and implementation of clinical learning experiences across the curriculum and other required courses occurring during the second phase of the NEOMED COM curriculum. The Associate Dean for Clinical Education will work collaboratively with the Associate Dean for Medical Education and closely with faculty, administrators, healthcare organizations, and community partners to foster an environment of high-quality education, student development, and community engagement. Up to 0.20 FTE for clinical practice is negotiable.
Principal Functional Responsibilities:
Leadership:
• Oversee and supervise Medical Education staff focusing on clinical education including establishing annual goals and evaluating performance. Oversee the integration and utilization of M3/M4 medical education staff, including off-site coordinators at affiliate locations.
• Supervise the Clinical Curriculum Director.
• Serve as administrative liaison of the Clinical Curriculum Sub-Committee.
• Identify and direct intervention for learners struggling in the clinical curriculum.
Curriculum Design and Implementation:
• In collaboration with the Clinical Curriculum Subcommittee and the Curriculum Committee, oversee the design and implementation of M3/4 phase of the NEOMED COM curriculum ensuring it meets accreditation standards and is aligned with student success.
• Work with faculty to integrate clinical education within the broader medical school curriculum, including oversight of clinical programs in the pre-clerkship curriculum.
• Support the integration of basic science concepts and interprofessional education opportunities in the M3/M4 Phase of the COM curriculum.
• Promote and develop curricular innovations that support the development of self-directed and lifelong learning skills that provide students with opportunities to gain proficiency in core clinical skills, cultural humility, and patient-centered care
• Collaborate with the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education to ensure compliance with LCME accreditation curricular content standards and monitor data for continuous quality improvement.
• Review assessments and instructional methods and lead analysis of student performance data through Course/Clerkship Annual Reviews and M3 and M4 Phase reviews to implement appropriate changes to curricular content and assessment strategies
• In partnership with the Clinical Curriculum Subcommittee and the Curriculum Committee, employ continuous quality improvement measures in response to faculty and student feedback regarding the M3/M4 phase of the curriculum.
Clinical Faculty Orientation and Support:
• Provide orientation to Clinical Experiential Directors (state-wide Clerkship Directors) and local Clerkship Site Directors regarding their responsibilities.
• Collaborate with Department Chairs, Clinical Experiential Directors (state-wide Clerkship Directors), and clinical site leadership (e.g., DIO ) to ensure compliance with required onboarding of site directors, clinical faculty, staff, and any non-faculty instructors of medical students.
• Identify faculty development needs to enhance the quality of teaching in the M3 educational programs.
Student Engagement and Support:
• Monitor the academic progress and learning environment for students participating in clinical education and refer students to the Academic Success Team as appropriate.
• Lead efforts to assess and address student feedback regarding clinical learning experiences.

Qualifications:
• MD or DO degree.
• Current Board Certification (ABMS or AOA ).
• Must be eligible for a NEOMED faculty appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level.
• Minimum of five years of experience in medical student clinical education directly related to principal functional responsibilities including but not limited to the following:
• Experience as a clerkship or clinical elective director.
• Experience and activities in teaching, research, administration, and service to qualify for a mid-career or senior level faculty appointment
• Demonstrated leadership of diverse groups of individuals including students, staff, and clinical faculty
• Experience in clinical curriculum development, implementation, and assessment, particularly at the undergraduate level.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and OneDrive).
