The T&I Laboratory Supervisor manages safety workload for T&I product development research, customer technical service and quality investigations and operations product and process evaluation. The individual ensures that project work and documented results are completed based on the priorities established by the Innovation Pipeline Manager and T&I Leads. The individual will be responsible for supporting Materion’s Operations, Quality and Customer Technical Services groups in addition to the primary role of supporting the Technology and Innovation group. They are in charge and responsible for the T&I facilities and a member of the ELT.

 

The Laboratory Supervisor is the formal manager of the Technology & Innovation Laboratory. As such, the supervisor will ensure the laboratory operates in an efficient and safe manner by ensuring its facilities are maintained and kept in a clean and orderly state. They are also responsible to ensure all technicians are up to date with all safety and training as needed to complete their responsibilities.

 

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Work in a safe, honest, and ethical manner at all times

  • Oversee scheduled work in Technology & Innovation Laboratory (Lab) to support Projects, Manufacturing Operations and Quality, and Customer tech Service (CTS)

  • Ensure that top priority projects reach timely completion and medium priority projects keep moving. Maintain High Level of CTS Customer Satisfaction (3-5 day) while maintaining Lab focus on New Product and Process Development (NPPD) Project Support

  • Support customer visits & data requests

  • Ensure that Lab equipment is properly maintained, calibrated and registered in the calibration system

  • Coordinate use of Lab between all parties

  • Prepare samples and conducts tests and needed by workload

  • Be responsible for developing Lab procedures and methods

  • Ensure that appropriate safety procedures are developed, documented and followed in all T&I Lab work activities. Works to implement “Best” practices with regard to EH&S guidelines

  • Perform audits of Lab safety equipment per the required schedule

  • Comply with and support all EH&S activities, operating in a safe, honest and ethical manner

  • Assist in the design of T&I Projects. Can execute projects within defined goals. Documents required data and observations. Assists in the analysis of the data and generation of reports

  • Oversee and participates in the effective training and personal growth of all Lab Staff, including reviewing the training of those at other facilities as necessary

  • Initiate work orders for Lab Equipment maintenance, maintenance work to support projects, chemical and metallurgical evaluations of project materials and use of manufacturing equipment in support of Projects

  • Be responsible for ordering and maintaining all supplies required by T&I personnel and the T&I Lab

  • Supervise and maintain general housekeeping in all Lab work areas

  • Provide regular feedback to the Innovation Pipeline Manager on Lab metrics and performance

  • Approve technician hours entered in timekeeping system (UKG)

  • Work to complete CTS project assignments and reviews and approves all CTS projects before they are marked complete

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associates degree in technical field

  • Adept at operating, maintaining and repairing mechanical and electronic equipment

  • Up to 10% travel may be required based on business need

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 year or more  degree in engineering, physical sciences or materials science field (e.g. Metallurgy, Ceramics, Materials Science)

  • Personnel management skills

  • A minimum of 4 years operating and maintaining analytical equipment

  • Laboratory experience including data acquisition, materials/chemical processing technology

  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
