JOB DUTIES:
Responsible for developing, implementing, and managing animal health and reproduction programs for swine genetics production company. Specific duties include: (1) Implementing swine breeding programs focused on increasing the quality of breeding animals through the scientific control and management of animals produced for the purpose of producing other breeding animals and semen utilized in breeding activities around the world; (2) Assisting in evaluating phenotypes of potential breeding stock; (3) Evaluating and sorting animals based on physical requirements, nutrition, and health status; (4) Assisting in evaluating age-targeted nutritional performance for proper growth and development; (5) Evaluating livestock feeds to ensure optimal animal nutrition for specific ages and types of animals; (6) Assisting with administering preventative medications and vaccines for parasite and disease control; (7) Evaluating livestock facilities to ensure appropriate safety, temperature, airflow, and related conditions, and executing needed biosecurity updates to facilities and equipment; (8) Analyzing feeding/watering system performance at operational sties; (9) Interpreting data and measurements associated with organic matter containment system volumes to understand the effects of proper processing methods and recommending application of organic matter to specific soils to produce crops for nutritional feed materials, which directly impact animal health and meat quality; (10) Evaluating and communicating biosecurity conditions and analyzing resources to best ensure compliance with industry biosecurity requirements; (11) Analyzing, developing, and recommending potential biosecurity protocol improvements; and (12) Implementing established safety and biosecurity protocols pursuant to federal and state requirements.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, or a closely related field. Travel required to unanticipated farm sites within 50-mile radius. Housing available.
