Camp Akita, located in Logan, Ohio, is a ministry of First Community Church and has been serving campers since 1948. Operating year-round, Camp Akita offers a vibrant summer camp program and cabin rentals throughout the rest of the year. The Head Cook / Food Services Manager plays a vital role in this long-standing tradition by overseeing all aspects of food service, including meal planning and preparation, inventory and ordering, kitchen organization, and compliance with state and local health standards. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a meaningful camp experience while working in a beautiful, natural setting.
Essential Functions
- Plan and prepare menus for summer camp sessions and rental groups, taking into account preferences, special requests, dietary restrictions, food allergies, and budget.
- Coordinate dining details and menu selection with rental group leaders.
- Prepare and cook meals for resident campers and rental guests.
- Ensure all kitchen staff follow proper food safety and handling procedures during meal preparation and service.
- Monitor inventory levels of food and kitchen supplies; order as needed to maintain stock.
- Schedule and receive food and beverage deliveries, verifying product quality and quantity.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitized kitchen in compliance with ServSafe standards.
- Ensure compliance with all local and state health department regulations and licensing requirements.
- Obtain and maintain ServSafe certification (paid for by First Community Church).
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 25 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment preferred.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with kitchen staff, site staff, campers, parents, and rental guests.
- Team-oriented with a willingness to contribute to a collaborative work environment.
- Willingness to obtain ServSafe certification (paid for by First Community Church).
- Successful completion of a background check.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently transition between sitting and standing positions.
- Perform repetitive tasks and use hands and fingers to handle or control objects.
- Hold arms and hands steady in various positions.
- See details of objects up close.
- Communicate clearly and understand spoken information.
- Frequently bend and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
