POSITION OVERVIEW SECTION

Center for the Sustainment of Trauma and Readiness Skills (C-STARS) Cincinnati is an Air Force Medical Service training platform partnered with the University of Cincinnati to provide advanced Critical Care Air Transport Team (CCATT) training for DoD medics. 711 HPW/RH at the C-STARS Cincinnati, Ohio, Operating Location.

The employee shall provide comprehensive research and clinical database services, ensuring effective development, management, maintenance, and data management, and shall support database integrity and security across various formats, including Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap). Much of this effort will require collaboration with the UC Information and Technology (IT) Office, which involves the UC IT infrastructure.

Database Services:

  • Development, management, and maintenance of research and clinical databases.
  • Data management services to ensure accurate and efficient data handling.
  • Support for database integrity and security to protect sensitive information.

Data Integration Services:

  • Development, maintenance, and validation of data integration processes.
  • Ensuring data integrity throughout the integration process.
  • Supporting data analysis for research projects to facilitate meaningful insights.

Database Formats:

  • Working with various database formats, including but not limited to REDCap.
  • Handling data from medical devices and ensuring compatibility with existing systems.

Essential Job Functions

The employee shall ensure:

  • Databases, applications, data systems, and data integrity processes shall be developed and maintained with high accuracy and integrity.
  • Development, integration, and maintenance tasks shall be completed within specified timeframes.
  • All data management practices shall comply with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and relevant regulatory standards.
  • Regular audits shall show a high level of data integrity and accuracy.

Systems Development and Maintenance:

  • Develop, design, and maintain research data systems, including databases and applications.
  • Implement and manage REDCap applications and online databases.
  • Create and manage Microsoft Access and SQL databases for research data collection.
  • Design, develop, and maintain clinical databases and data collection systems.
  • Implement and manage electronic data capture (EDC) systems such as Medidata Rave.
  • Develop, design, and maintain databases for research data collection and integration.

Data Integrity Integration, Management, and Accessibility:

  • Ensure data integrity and accessibility by creating, coding, and maintaining databases.
  • Conduct regular audits to verify the accuracy and completeness of data.
  • Implement data management best practices to ensure efficient and secure data handling.
  • Design and implement data integration strategies to provide seamless data flow across various systems.
  • Perform data mapping, transformation, and data cleansing activities.
  • Monitor data flow between databases, servers, and cloud services to ensure efficient data integration.
  • Utilize and manage research databases such as REDCap to collect, store, and analyze research data.

Healthcare Medical Clinical Research Support:

  • Apply knowledge of medical research methods to support various research projects.
  • Collaborate with researchers to understand their data needs and provide appropriate database solutions.

  • Apply knowledge of clinical research methods to support various clinical trials and research projects. Collaborate with clinical researchers to understand their data needs and provide appropriate data management solutions.
  • Apply knowledge of research methods to support various research projects.

  • Apply knowledge of healthcare and research methods to support various projects.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals and researchers to understand their data needs and provide appropriate data systems solutions.

Medical Device Data Handling:

  • Download, convert, and manage data files from medical devices, ensuring accurate and efficient data processing.
  • Integrate medical device data into research databases for analysis.

Virtual Desktop Management:

  • Create and manage virtual desktops to support research activities.
  • Ensure virtual desktop environments are secure and optimized for performance.

Programming and Scripting:

  • Develop and maintain databases using programming languages such as Visual Basic, Visual Basic for Applications, SQL, and PERL.
  • Write and optimize scripts for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes.
  • Develop and maintain data systems using programming languages such as SQL, JavaScript, and C#.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Generate comprehensive reports based on clinical, medical, and integrated research data for healthcare professionals, researchers, and administrators. Analyze the data to identify trends, discrepancies, and areas for improvement.

Compliance and Security:

  • Ensure all data management practices comply with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and relevant regulatory standards while implementing security measures to protect sensitive research and clinical data.

Training and Support:

  • Provide training and support to clinical and research staff on database usage, data management, and data integration practices and systems while troubleshooting and resolving database and data integration-related issues as they arise.

Data Validation and Quality Control:

  • Perform thorough data cleaning and validation to ensure data accuracy and develop and maintain data management plans and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Qualifications

Minimum Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, health informatics, or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated experience in database development and management, including data systems development and management, in a research and clinical research setting.
  • Proficient in programming languages used in the design of research databases (e.g., Visual Basic, Visual Basic for Applications, SQL, PERL), proficient in programming languages used in data management (e.g., SQL, JavaScript, C#), and proficient in programming languages used in data integration (e.g., SQL, Visual Basic, PERL).
  • Experience with REDCap, Microsoft Access, SQL databases, and Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems such as Medidata Rave.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage large volumes of data.
  • Experience with strong attention to detail and accuracy in data management.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Have a signed Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) in place with their company based on the potential access to confidential, proprietary, and/or sensitive information. NDA shall be provided to the Government Program Manager by start of performance.

Highly Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in health informatics, computer science, or related field
  • Certification in database management, clinical data management, data integration, or health information technology.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills used for data analysis and reporting.
  • Possess the ability to adapt to new technologies and processes quickly.
  • Prior medical military and research experience.
