SierTeK Ltd. is seeking a Respiratory Care Provider Instructor to support an opportunity at University of Cincinnati, CSTARS.

POSITION OVERVIEW SECTION

The employee shall meet all requirements for a contract Respiratory Care Provider (RCP) to support the United States Air Force's Critical Care Air Transport Team (CCATT) training program. The employee shall provide expert-level instruction, simulation support, and simulated ground and in-flight clinical oversight during training events. The RCP shall ensure that all CCATT students receive advanced respiratory care education and practical experience necessary to manage complex patients in simulated operational environments. The employee shall support 711 HPW, USAFSAM En Route Care Training Department (ET) to serve as an RCP for CSTARS Critical Care Air Transport Course-Advanced (CCAT-A), located in Cincinnati, OH. The RCP shall work under the general technical, administrative supervision of the CSTARS Cincinnati site director.

Essential Job Functions

Instructional Duties

  • Serve under the supervision of the Site Director; plan, develop, and deliver classroom, hands-on, and simulation-based curricula.
  • Provide high-quality academic and hands-on training aligned with military and civilian air transport standards, covering:
    • Patient stabilization
    • Aeromedical evacuation procedures
    • In-flight critical care management
  • Fulfill an assigned, scripted instructional role throughout the full course duration (typically week-long courses).
  • Develop and deliver Respiratory Therapy training, ensuring competency in key focus areas:

Specialized Subject Matter Areas

  • Aerospace Physiology & Altitude Medicine:
    Teach barometric pressure changes, hypoxia, gas expansion, and physiological responses to air transport.
  • Emergency Airway Management & Ventilation:
    Train advanced airway techniques, ventilator management, and adjustments for altitude conditions.
  • Pulmonary Function Testing & Blood Gas Analysis:
    Instruct in interpreting arterial blood gas (ABG) results in flight environments and oxygen therapy adaptations.
  • Aeromedical Equipment & Flight Adaptations:
    Demonstrate proper setup, calibration, and use of transport ventilators, monitors, and oxygen systems on military and civilian aircraft.
  • Cardiac & Pulmonary Resuscitation in Transport:
    Conduct training on resuscitation procedures during patient transport.
  • Rapid Evacuation & Disaster Response:
    Prepare students for emergency evacuations in combat, disaster, or humanitarian missions.

Instructional Development & Program Support

  • Engage in peer reviews, simulated aeromedical evacuation exercises, and continuing education.
  • Ensure safety and compliance with military aeromedical transport protocols.
  • Develop and maintain lesson plans, learning objectives, and instructional materials per USAF CCATT guidelines.
  • Use high-fidelity simulators and patient manikins for realistic in-flight training scenarios.
  • Evaluate student competencies through written exams, hands-on skills testing, and oral reviews.
  • Participate in curriculum review boards, updating content with current clinical evidence and best practices.
  • Demonstrate best practices in respiratory monitoring, stabilization, and ventilator use during altitude changes or decompression.
  • Participate in after-action reviews and quality improvement initiatives following training or operational events.
  • Advise Medical Director and/or Course Director on advanced respiratory care protocols, oxygen systems, and patient transport strategies.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of courses, attendance, student evaluations, and program performance metrics.
  • Attend and contribute to routine staff, administrative, and planning meetings with Government medical training personnel.

Qualifications

Minimum Position Requirements

  • Credential:
    Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
    (Certified Respiratory Therapist [CRT] or RRT credential acceptable; this position involves no patient care.)
  • Licensure:
    Active, unrestricted license to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of clinical respiratory therapy experience in acute care settings.
    • At least 2 years of critical care experience.
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Advanced Life Support (ALS)
  • Instructional Requirements:
    • Complete Basic Instructor Course (BIC) within 60 days of hire.
    • Accrue at least 60 instructor hours to qualify as an instructor.
  • Physical & Environmental Requirements:
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Move simulation equipment between training areas.
    • Work in low-light, high-audio environments and varying weather conditions simulating aeromedical missions.

Highly Desired Qualifications

  • Certifications:
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Prior military or CCATT (Critical Care Air Transport Team) aeromedical evacuation experience highly desirable.
