POSITION SUMMARY
The internal auditor is responsible for independently assessing the bank’s adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies. This role plays a critical part in identifying compliance risks, recommending corrective actions, and supporting a culture of compliance throughout the organization. The internal auditor will also have responsibility for providing quality control over key processes, supporting loan review programs, and preparing analytics and reports for management.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
• Oversee and implement the compliance monitoring and testing program
o Develop and execute the annual compliance monitoring and testing plan.
o Conduct periodic reviews of business units to assess compliance with applicable laws and regulations (e.g., BSA/AML, CRA, HMDA, TILA, RESPA, ECOA).
o Document findings, prepare reports, and communicate results to management and the Board of Directors.
o Track and verify remediation of compliance issues identified through monitoring, audits, or regulatory exams.
o Collaborate with business lines to enhance internal controls and mitigate compliance risks.
o Stay current on regulatory changes and assess their impact on bank operations.
o Assist in preparing for regulatory examinations and internal audits.
o Support compliance training initiatives and provide guidance to staff on regulatory matters.
• Administer internal loan review practices.
o Review commercial loans according to the established review policy, including the evaluation of underwriting, grading, and documentation practices.
o Complete independent loan review activities monthly and provide a quarterly report to Executive Management and the Board of Directors.
o Develop a risk-based internal loan review program for mortgage lending.
• Support and enhance bank practices to ensure effective compliance with FDICIA expectations on internal controls and commensurate documentation.
• Provide support for internal audit and examination processes.
o Coordinate with the business lines to document, track, and report on progress related to audit and examination findings.
o Perform ongoing evaluation of internal audit activities to recommend areas to bring in-house, as appropriate.
o Monitor corrective action plan progress with appropriate business lines.
o Provide feedback relative to policy/procedure updates resulting from the internal testing process.
• Follow Bank policies and procedures, proactively managing risk, and complying with laws and regulations.
• Maintain an uncompromising level of confidentiality.
• Other duties, as needed, to accomplish Mechanics’ Mission and Vision.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in banking, auditing, accounting, and/or compliance.
• Strong understanding of cash management products and banking operations.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
• Industry-recognized designations such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), etc.
• A degree from an industry-recognized graduate banking program
Computer/Hardware Skills
• Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access

• This position may require some flexibility in work schedule due to reporting deadlines

• Good written communication skills, particularly in summarizing financial information and explaining to others in non-complex terms
