Position: Family Engagement & Attendance Coordinator

Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to serve as Family Engagement & Attendance Coordinator. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of students, families, and district personnel within the Miami Trace Local School District. This position plays a crucial role in fostering strong relationships between the school district and families, supporting students during transitional periods, and providing assistance on the administrative team. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a deep understanding of family dynamics, and the ability to facilitate smooth transitions for students and district personnel alike.
Responsibilities:
Partner with community agencies to identify student needs and provide evidence-based behavioral health services and recovery support (Mental Health Services).
Collaborate with community partners to address student physical and mental health needs through school-based health care (Physical Health Services).
Implementing an approved, evidenced-based program to provide students with instruction in suicide prevention to meet requirements of Ohio law (Culturally Appropriate Prevention Services).
Provide access to essentials like clothing, hygiene products, and transportation to and from medical appointments (Homeless Youth Services).
Build system improvements and infrastructure to identify, track, and support students experiencing homelessness, including collaboration with local agencies or organizations to provide temporary housing solutions, such as emergency shelters or transitional housing (Homeless Youth Services).
Provide outreach materials to assist students in foster care with understanding which school-based staff and resources (tutoring, after school, mental health, other services) are available to serve them (Child Welfare-Involved Youth Services).
Utilize services and resources in partnership with Ohio’s Statewide Family Engagement Center (Family Engagement Activities).
Develop and implement strategies to enhance family engagement and involvement in the educational process.
Serve as a liaison between families, school staff, and community organizations to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
Plan and coordinate family outreach events, workshops, and informational sessions to provide support and resources to parents/guardians/families.
Conduct regular needs assessments to identify areas where families may require additional support or assistance.
Collaborate with district personnel to develop effective educational plans for students.
Provide guidance and support to families during transitional periods, addressing any concerns or challenges they may encounter.
Coordinate with school counselors, social workers, and other support staff to address the social, emotional, and academic needs of students and families.
Maintain accurate records and documentation related to family engagement initiatives, student transitions, and district administrator transitions.
Stay informed about relevant policies, regulations, and best practices related to family engagement, student transitions, and district leadership.
Assists school personnel in the identification, evaluation, placement, and reassignment of truant students.
Assists school personnel in evaluating, on an annual basis, the strengths and weaknesses of the truancy program.
Provide support to administrators about compliance with state mandates regarding attendance and truancy.
Assist the district in the development of attendance and truancy plans and policies.
Understand and communicate the needs of truant students.
Enforce state and local school attendance policies.
Investigate (phone calls, house calls) absences, truancies, or cases of reported missing children.
Counsel students and families in the importance of attending school.
Monitor student attendance through available technology and communication with school administrators.
Work with the building principal and safety coordinator in the process of filing charges of truancy with the juvenile or municipal courts and provide support to the district in court as needed.
Conduct 30-day reviews of absence intervention plans. Schedule and hold review meetings with families and court personnel as necessary.
Send notices to parents of students with excessive absences in coordination with building administrative teams explaining laws and consequences.
Perform other duties as assigned by district administration/supervisor.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in education, social work, counseling, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
Previous experience working in a school setting or with families in a community-based organization.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
Knowledge of family engagement strategies and best practices in education.
Experience developing and implementing programs or initiatives to support student and staff transitions.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and community partners.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and needs within the school district.
