The Financial Analyst II/Senior Financial Analyst position in the Power Grid Operations (PGO) Consolidations department is responsible for overall cost management, accounting and financial analysis for the Power Grid Operations. This position will support enhancing financial reporting for an organization with approximate annual spend of $8B of capital and O&M.
This position will work closely with the regional Power Grid Operations Finance teams and business partners to analyze and report variances, understand trends and implement reporting efficiencies. The position will work to ensure areas are in alignment with the Power Grid Operations financial governance model. In addition, this position will help oversee complex allocations that impact Power Grid Operations serving as a subject matter expert.
Responsibilities
Ensure timely and accurate analysis and reporting:
Provide input for consistent consolidated financial reporting for actuals, budgets, projections and variances
Utilize reporting tools (PowerBi, etc.) to enhance financial reporting for the organization
Serve as Power Grid Operations Business Rule owner ensuring reporting criteria is maintained to align with business needs
Coordinate Asset Accounting initiatives (Projects past estimated in-service, Idle/Suspended reviews, etc.)
Identify process improvements opportunities
Support months end close activities, including preparing/reviewing journal entries
Maintain good working knowledge of accounting policies and impacts
Support financial allocations:
Understand and manage Power Grid Operations allocations
Serve as subject matter expert for allocations helping finance peers and business with questions, troubleshooting issues and providing guidance as needed
Review allocation steps to ensure they are working correctly in accordance with documented procedures
Maintain documentation on allocations and perform training as needed
Special projects/other:
Build relationships & promote two-way communication with business partners and Finance peers
Actively seek to identify and meet business partner needs with a sense of urgency, taking ownership of customer issues and problems
Help provide guidance to business partners on complex accounting issues & capitalization guidelines
Participate as a lead or team member for various special projects or financial studies

Required/Basic Qualifications (Financial Analyst II)
Bachelor's degree with major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Other Related Degree
Two (2) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree
Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures
Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft, HFM, PowerPlan, etc.) and query tool (WebI)
Experience using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Power Point
Required/Basic Qualifications (Senior Financial Analyst)

Desired Qualifications
CPA or working toward CPA
Advanced degree, preferably in Accounting
Experience using Microsoft Business Intelligence Suite, Cube reporting, and PowerPivot
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to analyze and understand financial information, recognize significant variances, trends, and irregularities, and summarize clearly and concisely to management.
Ability to work in a team environment & foster good relationships with teammates & business partners
Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships at all levels within the organization
Ability to meet stated deadlines and respond quickly to changing needs through a teamwork approach
Broad knowledge of utility environment and operations
Working Conditions
Hybrid mobility classification - work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to a Duke Energy facility.
