Job Title: Correctional Nurse Practitioner
Location: Dayton, OH (45417)
Shift: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (No weekends/holidays)
Duration: 3 months, with potential extension based on need and mutual fit.
Role & Responsibilities:
Monitor progress and intervene in the course of chronic illnesses, adhering to ODRC policies and protocols.
Administer inoculations or vaccinations against communicable diseases; prescribe medications or administer treatments for acute and chronic conditions; perform minor surgeries as training and competency allow.
Conduct routine physical exams to assess chronic condition management and diagnose new conditions.
Evaluate patients for specialty referral needs, either inside or outside the institution, and review consult reports, approving or disapproving recommendations as necessary.
Order and review the results of laboratory tests, x-rays, and other diagnostic tests.
Collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to facilitate medical reclassification and requests for non-formulary medications.
Provide routine and emergency medical care to patients as scheduled.
Examine, diagnose, and treat patients within the scope of practice, as defined by the State of Ohio Nursing Board.
Conduct rounds on infirmary patients as determined by the CMO.
Document medical information gathered during patient interviews according to ODRC healthcare guidelines and American Correctional Association standards, including assessments, diagnostic impressions, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions.
Cooperate with CMO medical quality oversight and accept suggestions, redirection, and guidance as necessary.
Skills/Requirements:
State of Ohio Medical License required.
At least one year of NP experience in a primary care setting or hospital medicine.
Master's Degree required.
Healthcare-professional level CPR certification required.
DEA Certification required.
ANCC Certificate required.
US Passport or Naturalization card (if born outside the US).
