Job Description
Highway Laborer W/CDL Highway Technician 1, Cuyahoga East - Warrensville/Euclid - PNs: 20078948, 20057191, 20057258
What You Will Do
The successful candidate will must maintain CDL Class A or Class B CDL along with tanker endorsement. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Operate Basic Equipment (such as but not limited to Loader, Chipper, Skid Steer, Mowers, Chainsaw)
- Perform general Highway Maintenance duties.
- Performs Snow and Ice control duties.
- Perform Emergency Response, clean up and perform traffic control duties in a work zone or around an accident site.
- Perform minor repairs & Maintenance on equipment.
- Perform Miscellaneous labor and bookkeeping task, operates two-way radios.
- Responds to general inquiries from the public.
- This job may require overtime for emergency or planned maintenance operations.

Official Position Description:
Operates basic equipment (i.e., see glossary for identification of basic equipment) & performs general highway maintenance duties, which vary by season & include snow & ice control & related maintenance duties through the operation of snowplow with the spreader, brine dispensing equipment (i.e., tanks less than 500 gallons capacity), dump truck with attachments & receives training (i.e., on-the-job & formal) in operation of basic, standard & complex equipment (e.g., operates any combination of basic equipment to perform snow & ice control & related maintenance duties; maintains, repairs & installs traffic signs & pavement markings on interstate, federal & state highways &/or roadways). Loads salt into dump trucks using front-end loader & other equipment.
Performs minor repairs to & maintains equipment (e.g., refuels vehicles, lubricates parts, checks vehicle tires to identify wear & ensure appropriate pressure, replaces light bulbs, washes & cleans trucks & equipment to prevent rusting). Changes tailgates & snowplow blades. Conducts pre-trip inspections of equipment.
Performs miscellaneous labor & bookkeeping tasks. Operates two-way radio/base station. Telephone crews to respond to emergencies. Cleans offices & garage. Maintains daily records & logs (e.g., fuel sheets, material check sheets). Responds to general inquiries from the public (e.g., gives directions, explains traffic delays, explains work underway). Assists stranded motorists (e.g., telephones for needed assistance). Performs general labor & maintenance functions at the garage. Loads & unloads freight; arranges stock in the warehouse; moves equipment. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions; ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary; 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in operation of basic equipment.
Note: Applicant must have valid Commercial Driver’s License at the appropriate level pursuant to approved position description on file to operate motorized equipment of size & type regulated by section 4506 of Ohio Revised Code.

This position is overtime eligible per FLSA Standards.
All bargaining unit and exempt new hires to ODOT must serve a one-year probationary period.
If this position is filled internally, the wage rate will be determined per the contract.
