The Belmont County Board of Commissioners works directly with the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office to provide quality care for the men and women in the jail facility. The Jail Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works under the supervision of the Belmont County Jail Head Registered Nurse, providing nursing services to jail inmates.
Essential duties, skills, and responsibilities:
-Administer emergency and non-emergency medical care to inmates.
-Provide various medical services and clinical procedures to inmates under the direct supervision of a physician.
-Assist the physician with and or perform daily inmate sick call.
-Issue prescribed medications.
-Schedule appointments, conduct physical examinations, and deliver treatment as ordered by the physician.
-Address inmate medical complaints.
-Recognize the needs for the health and welfare of the inmates.
-Maintain inmate medical files with strict confidentiality (HIPAA).
-Schedule inmate physician and dental appointments.
-Data entry into the computer.
-Documentation of all inmate contacts, occurrences, and incidents on the computer and in proper forms and files.
-Must work a variety of shifts; rotate on call duties.
-Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
-Attend training classes as necessary.
-Maintain all continuing education and certifications as required by the State of Ohio.
-This position is responsible for but not limited to: dispensing medication, first aid and assessing inmates’ medical condition.
-Have good interpersonal relationship skills.
-Basic computer skills and knowledge.
-Good language and composition skills.
-Meet state minimum requirements to maintain all certifications.-
-One-year nursing experience in behavioral medicine, medical-surgical, emergency room, or closely related area preferred.
-Some prior work experience in a correctional setting desirable.
-Must be familiar with identification and treatment of poly-substance abuse.
