This is an onsite position in Mason/Cincinnati, OH. Must be able to commute or relocate to the area for this position. Relocation assistance provided.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will lead activities related to the industrial design of medical device equipment and handpieces in collaboration with the product development design teams. They will use independent judgment to clarify and prioritize tasks to facilitate design making in these areas. Additionally, they will provide technical expertise as a member of an agile, multidisciplinary team of Scientists, Engineers, and Model Makers. The successful candidate will be comfortable designing and implementing integrated solutions that include the latest trends and incorporate feedback from AtriCure customers to make seamless designs in the capital equipment and handpieces. The ability to work with consultants, suppliers, and customers to implement solutions is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:


Assist AtriCure internal and client external team members in determining and planning the need, type, priority, budgets and scheduling for insights and/or Industrial Design / Human Factors activities
Define requirements, offer technical expertise and implement designs in line with technical expertise in industrial design
Participate in Voice of the Customer planning, collection and analysis
Proven experience with using sketch models, low and high-fidelity prototypes to identify and eliminate potential use errors early in the development process
Experience in experimental design of formative and summative human factor studies to address the needs of the requirements setting, design testing, verification and validation stages of physical and digital medical device development.
Offering human factors technical expertise to complex problems
Facilitate collaboration in meetings and leading presentations to internal/external clients
Knowledge of relevant human factors regulations, standards and guidance for physical, digital user interfaces and packaging.
Proven experience in human centered design principles, observational research, ergonomic design, ethnographic research/data analysis
Physical system integration / industrial design
Experience working directly with customers
Experience with medical devices, operating room settings, etc.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:


Bachelor's degree in industrial design, or an engineering discipline with real world experience with Industrial Design and Human Factors
6-10 years of relevant experience in product development and design
Medical Device Industry experience
Human Factors Engineering / Usability Engineering experience in design
Demonstrate time management, decision making, presentation and organization skills
Track record of successful product development working in cross-functional project teams
Ability to converse technically with mechanical, electronic, software, clinical, regulatory, and quality engineering, industrial and visual design disciplines

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


Master's degree in industrial design or related field
Knowledge of Change Order Systems
Cardiac surgery procedural knowledge, Operating Room or Hybrid Suite settings
Familiarity with HE 75 and ISO 62366-1
Prior experience developing RF Generators
Knowledge of cryo ablation systems a plus
Local candidates preferred

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:


Ability to regularly walk, sit, or stand as needed
Ability to occasionally bend and push/pull as needed
Ability to regularly lift up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift over 50 pounds
Periodic travel may be required for this rile
Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
