Behavior Support Professional (BSP)

Location: Russell Nesbitt Services, Inc.


GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The BSP performs assessments, develops habilitation program plans to increase independent living skills, provides training in the person-specific aspects and methods of a plan of intervention or instruction to primary care providers for consumers with significant maladaptive behaviors. The plan of intervention will require a behavioral guideline, protocol, or behavior plan depending on the consumer's need. The BSP also provides monitoring and evaluation of the plan of intervention or instruction for adults with cognitive, emotional, physical, and developmental disabilities in Ohio County in West Virginia.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's degree in human services field and a minimum of one (1) year experience working in the I/DD field.
  2. A valid driver's license.
  3. Successfully pass criminal background requirements set forth in licensure regulations
  4. Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel and the ability to learn new software programs, utilized for scheduling, billing, consumer data and other related purposes.
  5. Demonstrate a commitment to active treatment, community integration, and self-determination.
  6. Ability to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality and safeguard consumer, agency and administrative documentation and/or information.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain compliance with Medicaid Title XIX I/DD Waiver regulations
  • Performs assessments to establish baseline data for behavioral interventions.
    • Drafts positive behavioral support plans, behavior management plans, behavioral protocols and accompanying documentation.
    • Analyzes data and makes modifications as needed.
  • Performs annual assessments of each residential or community consumer
    • Completes a written summary of strengths, weaknesses and needs
    • Makes recommendations for habilitation and behavioral programming at least annually or more frequently as consumer's needs dictate.
  • Provide BSP services to assigned clients as set forth in the Medicaid Title XIX I/DD Waiver Manual, alternative funding source requirements and agency policy regardless of participant's funding source or lack thereof.
  • Creates program strategies, techniques, materials and methods to assist consumer in obtaining objectives in accordance with documented priority needs through the annual assessment as approved by the treatment team.
  • Presents and defends positive behavioral support plans and protocols to the Behavior Management Subcommittee and the Human Rights Committee.
  • Completes a clear, concise, accurate and detailed progress note for each BSP service event in accordance with funding source requirements.
  • Evaluates and analyzes consumer progress toward goals and objectives on a monthly basis, utilizing the approved data collection documentation form.
  • Provides training on and monitors implementation of team approved program goals and objectives for community options habilitation staff, respite providers, parents and other caregivers; completes the required DD-6.
  • Observes and evaluates program implementation and consumer's response within the established training environment.
  • Prepare clear, concise, accurate and detailed written reports for annual, quarterly, and special treatment team meetings outlining progress towards goals and objectives, and any recommended changes.
  • Complete all required documentation in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with funding source and agency standards.
    • Reviews, organizes and summarizes documentation to complete the billing process to funding sources.
