About the Job

The Registered Nurse - Neurology plays a critical role in delivering specialized nursing care to patients with neurological disorders within a Medical Office Building (MOB) setting. This position involves comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing interventions tailored to patients with conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease. The nurse collaborates closely with neurologists, other healthcare professionals, and patients’ families to ensure holistic and patient-centered care. Additionally, the role requires ongoing patient education, symptom management, and support to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. The nurse also contributes to clinical documentation, quality improvement initiatives, and adherence to regulatory standards within the neurology practice.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum of 1 year clinical nursing experience, preferably in neurology or related healthcare settings.
  • Strong knowledge of neurological disorders, treatments, and nursing care principles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Advanced certifications such as Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN).
  • Experience working in outpatient or ambulatory care settings, particularly within a Medical Office Building.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation software.
  • Additional certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or other specialty areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough neurological assessments and monitor patients’ conditions to identify changes or complications.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring patient safety and adherence to protocols.
  • Collaborate with neurologists and multidisciplinary teams to develop and update individualized care plans.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding neurological conditions, treatment plans, and self-care strategies.
  • Document all nursing care, patient responses, and clinical observations accurately in electronic health records.
  • Assist with diagnostic procedures and coordinate patient referrals to other specialists or services as needed.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and maintain compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.

Skills:

The required skills enable the nurse to perform detailed neurological assessments and deliver precise nursing interventions that address complex patient needs. Effective communication skills are essential for educating patients and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated care. Critical thinking and clinical judgment are applied daily to recognize subtle changes in neurological status and respond appropriately. Proficiency with electronic health records facilitates accurate documentation and efficient information sharing among care providers. Preferred skills, such as advanced certifications and experience with outpatient care, enhance the nurse’s ability to manage specialized neurological cases and contribute to continuous quality improvement within the practice.
