Job Title: Family Support Advocate
Job Hours: Part Time, under 30 hours
Pay Wage: $14.00 per hour
Job Role: The Family Support Advocate role serves in a mentoring relationship to empower families in a housing crisis to achieve stabilization through community connections.
Job Responsibilities: The Family Support Advocate will be responsible for encouraging and guiding families enrolled with Family Promise of Lima-Allen Co (FP) and will supplement Family Promise teams with supportive relationships with the community and provide an additional layer of support with the guests in programs, including parents and children. The responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Empowering Families:
- Establish and build relationships with families enrolled in programming through informal discussions on challenges of the program, tips for success, etc.
- Assist with classes and programming offered by FP to encourage and support participating families
- Participate in all required training to engage with clients in an empowering manner
Achieving Stabilization:
- Be a welcoming presence to guests, clients and potential clients at the Day Center and on the phone
- Prepare for new families entering the program by setting up rooms, assessing needs, and distributing personal hygiene based on family make-up.
- Support the daily functions of the Day Center to make it hospitable and useful to guests and clients.
- Enforce Guidelines and hold families accountable
- Maintain menu/grocery list/supplies on a bi-weekly basis
- Assist with administrative duties and donation tracking.
- Keep accurate daily notes in Communication Log and Census Reports
- Transport families, as needed
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Community Connections:
- Collaborate and assist families in navigating and connecting to available community resources
- Support case management by aiding families in permanent housing search and accessing funding resources for stabilization
- Communicate with churches, volunteers and donors regarding FP programs and families and assist with set up/tear down when hosts are providing meal
Qualifications/Education/Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively, plan, organize and prioritize work in a flexible work environment, and be self-motivated and directed
- Enthusiasm for work in social justice, compassion for people in crisis, exceptional people skills
- Honesty, integrity, loyalty, high professional demeanor, and respect for coworkers, volunteers and guests/clients
- Multi-tasking and time management abilities critical
- Must be able to handle detailed information with a high degree of accuracy and to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
- Interpersonal skills are critical with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people from different cultures and faiths
Physical and Emotional Demands:
- This position may require lifting/carrying (20-30 lbs.), walking, stair climbing, sitting, standing, driving and prolonged visual concentration.
