Position Purpose:


* Virtual analysis is a critical part of Hendrickson's design and validation process. The Virtual Analysis Co-op supports this process by using Finite Element Analysis to investigate failures modes in custom test fixtures and production products. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain exposure to in depth FEA techniques while seeing their real world applications in a test lab environment.
Essential Functions:


* Perform FEA in ANSYS to validate custom lab fixtures and production products.
* Correlate FEA models to real world test data to increase precision and accuracy of results.
* Support FEA engineers by preprocessing geometry for subsequent analyses.
* Post process and interpret FEA data.
* Design test fixtures to withstand loads, using FEA to ensure durability.
* Acquire and analyze test data with a data acquisition system and other means in a lab environment.
Education & Training:

* Working towards a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
Minimum Qualifications:


* Strong knowledge of basic engineering fundamentals including but not limited to statics, dynamics, physics, calculus, and materials is required.
* Proficiency in using a CAD software such as SolidWorks or Creo is required.
* Proficiency in using a coding language, such as APDL, MATLAB, Python, or C++ is required.
* Prior experience with Finite Element Analysis and/or ANSYS is a plus.
* Effective oral, written, and PC skills are required, with an emphasis on Excel.
* Previous work experience in a test lab, machine shop, or a business setting is a plus.
* Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills required.
Physical Demands:


* Ability to remain seated at a computer workstation for several hours at a time - brief stretching breaks are encouraged to reduce muscle stiffness and eye fatigue.
* Ability to lift and maneuver up to 25lbs with occasional twisting, reaching, and out of position body placement.*
* Ability to perform tasks in a heated/non-air-conditioned test laboratory - refreshments provided during hot seasons, regular "breather" breaks are encouraged in the air-conditioned office area
* Must be able to wear all required PPE - safety glasses, steel toe boots, and hearing protection when required.
*NOTE: None of the physical lifting and manipulation within the job duties is repetitive.

Environmental Conditions:


* Office setting and R&D lab setting
* All necessary PPE (as defined by OSHA) and training associated with such will be provided.
