Position Summary
The Solid Waste Supervisor performs entry-level managerial duties associated with daily landfill operations and maintenance. This role ensures compliance with operational, safety, and environmental standards while supervising staff and coordinating activities related to solid waste management.
Essential Job Functions
Supervise daily operations and staff including operators and laborers; plan, assign, and evaluate work.
Train employees on safety procedures, work methods, and equipment use.
Administer and recommend disciplinary actions as necessary.
Troubleshoot operational issues and recommend corrective actions to maintain compliance with solid waste regulations.
Maintain records for daily logs, reports, and operational data.
Schedule and coordinate operational duties, including maintenance, housekeeping, and staffing.
Order supplies and equipment to meet operational and personnel needs.
Provide on-the-job and in-house training to staff on new techniques and safety practices.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
Minimum of four (4) years of related experience preferred.
Supervisory training or equivalent management experience preferred.
Valid Ohio Driver’s License with a safe driving record required.
Must pass a drug screen and background check.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong understanding of landfill operations, environmental compliance, and solid waste regulations.
Experience managing landfill gas systems, leachate operations, and capital improvement projects.
Ability to oversee contractors and consultants on construction or maintenance projects.
Proficiency in heavy equipment operation (backhoe, excavator, dump truck) and preventative maintenance.
Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
