Position Summary
The Project Engineer serves as the technical expert for the site, supporting, developing, and enhancing surface and underground mining operations. This position requires strong engineering knowledge, leadership ability, and hands-on problem-solving in both field and office environments.
Duties and Responsibilities
Apply engineering expertise to solve operational challenges and improve efficiency.
Lead the assessment, repair, design, and development of site modifications and additions.
Serve as the technical expert in hoist and shaft operations, maintenance, and safety.
Perform surveying, mapping, ventilation monitoring, and ground control instrumentation.
Provide guidance and training to team members on engineering principles and best practices.
Oversee construction, installation, and removal of site modifications, ensuring safety and quality.
Maintain accurate project records, mine drawings, and technical documentation.
Ensure all work complies with safety standards, permits, and regulatory requirements.
Manage capital and expense projects from concept through implementation and post-project support.
Perform duties in underground and confined environments as required.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in underground mining, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
Proven success in leading teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
Supervisory experience in a mine or industrial setting preferred.
Self-motivated and detail-oriented with the ability to adapt to changing operational needs.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
Work is performed in both office and underground environments.
Fieldwork requires use of personal protective equipment (steel-toe boots, hard hat, miner’s belt, safety harness).
Must be able to lift up to 65 lbs., climb ladders up to 30 feet, and work in confined or elevated spaces.
Conditions underground include variable lighting, humidity, and temperatures ranging from 78–100°F.
Must be capable of walking long distances on uneven or slippery surfaces.
Attention to environmental and safety conditions such as roof and rib stability is required.
- Standard office equipment (computers, phones, copiers) used regularly for planning and documentation.
